Spotting

Hey all,

Sorry for the questions. I looked for a faq on the forums did not see anything. Also searched for spotting, got so many results I could not get anything useful. That said, on to my question.

Spotting in the manual says that fortifications provide cover, and infantry is only spotted by other infantry one hex away, or two if a recon. It seems like tanks are firing at my infantry in trenches. It could be blind fire, but they always shoot at the trench squares with guys in them (there are open squares between units). So it seems as if the tanks spot the infantry. Any idea what is going on?

thanks

Geoff

There could be something that can see the infantry, but that you cannot see. Also, in trenches IIRC, you are only in cover when the enemy cannot see along the trench.

Hi Pip,

Thanks for the answers. I don't understand what you mean when you say "Also, in trenches IIRC, you are only in cover when the enemy cannot see along the trench." The trench runs across the board, the infantry are in it, and the tanks are to the "front." Does this mean they can see the infantry? That would make no sense to me I admit.......

I believe infantry can be seen when you are looking along the trench, rather than across it. Like looking down a runway, rather than standing to the side looking across it.

Cheers

I have experienced some instances of "extra smart" AI in single players games, where the AI shoots at where I am located but with less than perfect knowledge about my position. When I run across it again, I'll try to post specifics. I do not think there was a trench or scout unit involved.
