Grand Campaign 41: Demyansk Pocket: tree question

Finished GC 41 with a marginal victory in the Demyansk Pocket (which I swore should have been a DV; the second time I was given a MV when I thought it's be a DV. Whatever). I am now directed to GC '42, which is war in the east. Am I to take it that a DV would've directed me to GC 42/43 West? Also, looking at the tree, it looks as if I am forever to stay in the east. So, in the Grand Campaign, whether you fight in the west, and ultimately invade England in 1945, or stay in the east and always on the defensive, ultimately fighting in Berlin is dependent upon whether you get a MV or DV at Demyansk???? Also, the directions on supplying the airfields seemed confusing: the orders were to escort the supply planes to four different supply airfields (done) and leave them there. But I noticed that if I unloaded the planes, I received an infantry force, which I moved off the airfields and engaged in battle. Did this cost me my DV?

Yes, that cost you the DV. You must unload the planes and leave the Infantry units on the airfields.
As for your other question, you can choose whether you play GC 42 East or GC 42/43 West. It does not matter if you had a DV or a MV. Whichever of those two Campaigns you start next you will be asked if you want to use the saved core from GC 41.
My sugestion is to play first one and then the other.
Be advised that when you choose the west path you will only get to keep a few of your core units. 8 core and 4 SE, if I recall correctly. So choose wisely.

Should have read your post before last night. Would've saved me a couple of hours. Thanks though. And it stinks to lose so much of your core force going west.

The east campaign is centered around big core and huge battles with a lot of armor. The west campaign is giving you a different feel and focus more on smaller core and difficult terrain. If you could take the whole core with you from the previous eastern campaign it would be not possible.
P.S. I moved the thread from AAR to the main forum as it's not really an After Action Report but more a question.

I know the feeling. When i started GC 42/43 W, i raised the number of core units by 5 and i removed the trigger that removes any surplus prestige at turn 2. In the following scenarios the player receives more core units, which i disbanded.
I never understood why only so few core units could be transferred from GC 41 as the player receives a whole bunch of new core units during the GC 42/43 scenarios in France. It is all a matter of personal flavor, but i would have given more core slots and far less (obsolete) units in those first missions. So now with a few minor tweaks, i am much more cheerful to start GC 42/43 W.
