I am constantly having the game crash due to a Runtime Error on the tutorial missions. It seems to happen randomly but I have not made it past turn 2 before the crash. Running windows 8.1 and NVidia 570 with 344.75 driver.

did you install DirectX 9.0c with the game?
yes 8.1 comes with 11 i know, but you also need 9 as well...
Runtime Errors are caused by as much by hardware than software...
How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:
1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice
We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

Forum wouldn't allow me to post the DxDiag attachment saying .txt files not allowed.

Your posts are too few.
Copy and paste your log.

Copy and paste goes over the character limit for a post. If there is a specific portion needed I will edit, just need to know what would be useful.

Try to uninstall the game and install it again. Get back here if the problem persists.

Is it during a movement of a unit?

Yes, last crash I has was during a movement command. Did make it to turn 4 this time but the crash did happen when I was moving the walker unit in the first tutorial mission.
Not sure about the previous crashes but I am trying to pay more attention now.

Please try the following:
Open the folder where the game is installed and locate a folder named "Audio". Rename it to "_Audio". Run the game.
You'll be playing without sounds, but let's see if the crashes persists.

Will make the changes and try it out. I am pretty sure now that all of the crashes happen when issuing movement as the last 3 crashes all happened that way.

Made the changes and was able to play the first 2 missions without any issues. Making these changes removes all animation as well as sound though.

I need to check your DxDiag. Send the file to support[at]slitherine.co.uk.

You are not using the onboard sound, right?

Hate to sound dumb but not sure what you mean by onboard sound. Currently sound is through my TV via the HDMI cable from my card. My default sound is set to the TV.

That means you are using the sound via Nvidia HDMI cable. The issue might be there.
Could you please try to play the sound through the rear/front onboard sockets on your computer? Usually you only have to plug the headphones/speakers on those sockets, in order the onboard sound to become active and the default sound.

I used some wireless headphones via a USB port and ran a full scenario without any issues with the Audio folder changed back. Seems it might be an issue with running it through the my HDMI but it is only time this issue has come up with any game I have played.

The game is probably using a library that is conflicting with the sound drivers or codec/filters installed on your Windows. Very often is a case of broken codecs.
It might happen only with some games or programs.
It isn't he first time that I hear issues between Audio HDMI causing crashes with games.
