We need a soft cap calculator that at all time count average soft cap as we deploy.
And we need the ability to overstrenght and understrenght units.

The calculator need to work all the time not only on deployment. I dont care all that much if the cap cuts come % off a few victory hexes, but I want to know by the end of the scenario if Im going to get full prestige for finishing the mission.

Agree.
Adding a soft cap, but no way to monitor it sucks.

Im not sure, but dont captured units also influence the soft cap? So even if you calculate the cap right at the start you can go over it during a mission? There are some missions where you get a few units or an expensive unit.

See, all this is why the soft cap was a very bad idea to begin with.
Its impossible to keep track off.
I started a game where i had soft cap in the back of my mind but it all became to hard to keep track off so i stopped. Now i dont want to play untill its fixed.
And you shouldnt have to edit the game files because the producers of the game is to lazy to make it work properly.

I don't think the soft cap mechanic is bad, but it is bad that there is no way for people who are new to the game to realize they are being adversely affected and it sucks that there is no way to know what is going on in game. What is a bad mechanic is the way the game is designed so that your success in 1944 depends on your money from 1941. If you don't have enough saved you have to replay everything. I think each campaign should be playable on its own to some degree. Having to maintain a good core is enough.

I wonder if anybody tried to start f.e. the game from 42 or 43 and win. I have to check how much prestige you get at the start of those years.
