Overlord 2008 Demo Games

Hi,
Bob Medcraft organised a 25mm demonstration game of Field of Glory at the Overlord 2008 trade show in Abingdon. Myself, Lynda Fairhurst and David Fairhurst also took part making it two a aside with plenty help to answer questions. Battle report told as photos with comments at:

Game 2 is a real see-saw and the final result is in the balance until the end.
This is the first time I have played 25mm in a long time - since 6th edition all those years ago. I had high hopes with FoG using the same move distances and terrain sizes. But in the end I was a little disappointed. Sure the figures are really gorgeous and look wondeful on the table. But the first game I was constantly underestimating the distances for things - the troops never seemed to move as fast as they should and I wonder if the choice of using the same move distances was a good one in theory, but in practise the casual 25mm player from 15mm is going to have more problems this way round. I certainly did and would not feel comfortable playing a competition in 25mm without serious practise beforehand. Still I cannot compare this to the experience under DBM as I never played 25mm in DBM. I also disliked the effectively smaller terrain sizes, which makes it more difficult for MF to take part in the game. We were playing on a 8x6 table which may account for it. But I don't really like the idea of 650 points on 6x4 - too few points leads to cheap troops like pikes being the goto troop type of choice - already seen in the 25mm competitions so far.
Also I have developed a taste for themed competitions and the army choices of 25mm players is more limited, so they tend to go for and get open periods. All in all I'm going to stick with 15mm, although I won't rule out another go with 25mm I'm not going to rush out and buy an army just yet!
Enjoy!
Bruce.
