Wanted to log my 5minute / 30minute responses as requested...
First - some background: Played tabletop 40K for about 7 years, and really enjoy the format of the turn based "hex" games - always have. One of my all time top 5 games on any platform is "Steel Panthers" (1&2) and was extremely pleased to see a lot of similarities there. The reason "Steel Panthers" became one of my all time computer faves is that several millenia ago I played "Squad Leader" (and owned several of the expansions). I had always looked for a computer game that would encapsulate "Squad Leader", and IMB "Steel Panthers" was about as close as you could get.
It took me about 5 minutes to understand what to do, it's pretty intuative, but probably because I've done a lot of games (both board and computer) that work similar to this. For a new user, I think the tutorials really need to have the step by step walk-thru pop-up dialog. That's probably my only recommendation. The other thing I noticed was how much work had gone into emmulating the visuals of all the units, and the strong degree as to how you've tried to accurately incorporate the fluff & units of the "grimdark" into the game. Well done !
After 30 minutes (admittedly, I messed around a lot with what units could do, rather than just trying to achieve the scenario victory conditions)...I felt like I had a strong grasp of the game. I only finished the first scenario (after 3 run throughs), but definitely felt like I wanted to play through the rest of the game.
No bugs, no crashes...no display problems. All working properly...
I haven't logged 60 minutes yet, but obviously would love to see all the factions & units (I'm a Grey Knight player) at some point - whether that is an all inclusive release, or just add on packs...I also think a "character" element would be nice - promotions, medals, maybe even some other RPG elements. Perhaps some of this is already in there and I'll discover it as I go along.
Thanks for the great work, an enjoyable experience so far.
