A Few Questions

Hi all, recently bought the game, and enjoying it a lot! A very neglected period of history I feel has come to life.
A couple of questions I have from my experiences so far. Apologies if the answers are obvious.
1. Is there any way to manage cavalry so that when they break an opponent they don’t charge off willy-nilly and get wiped out?
2. Is artillery actually any good? It seems quite underpowered, especially at close range.
3. Is there a list of the special abilities the units have and what they do?
4. Are mods done in the Steam folder or is there a separate place to put files?

Hello!
1) not really, except economy of force, it might be tempting to pile your cav up on a lone enemy but once it routs they will all follow...
2) it is but there is a wider degree of random in casualties, however its best to use artillery in conjunction with other missle fire the same turn, artillery give a -1 cohesion modifier to enemy units
3) no real special abilities per se, rather study the POA charts for both impact and melee, plus the cohesion modifier test chart. One thing thats important is if a unit is a shock troop, sometimes the weapon gives the status, sometimes the type. (units losing close combat with shock troops suffer -1 cohesion test modifiers, non shock troops cannot break off from shock troops etc
4) I think the developer stated that the steam version should be the same as any other version...Best to use the editor to copy an existing module, then do your mods in that rather than th emain game files.

Thanks for your answers!
A couple more questions:
1. Is there a way to play both sides in the historical battles? As it is, you can only play the loser or the unlikely victor. I can see how to do it in multiplayer, but not singleplayer.
2. Is there an undo move button? Obviously if you are shot at or reveal enemy units it shouldn’t be possible, but many times I’ve made the wrong move and cursed the lack of an undo button.
3. As far as modding goes, I notice there are a lot of armies, like ‘France 1494-1515’ and so on. How many of these are allowed per module? Can I create a custom French list emphasising artillery for instance?
Thanks!

1) only by making a reversed version of the scenario. People are working on doing this as mods.
2) Sadly the engine does not support this.
3) As far as I know there is no limit on the number of army lists that can be added to the armylists.txt file in a module.

Thanks so much for answering!
Is there a way to check ‘next unit which can fire’? I see the option for next unit and next unmoved unit, but is there a quick way to cycle through the units I have targets for?

Press L - you will get a list of units. If they can shoot this is displayed in yellow.
