Is there any more Soviet Corps news? It has been a while since we heard anything.

This game is abandoned by those who made it.

No news, we are in the process finishing Armageddon.

Soviet Corps moved to next year nothing has been abandoned ;-), but it will come, we have done already quite some work on it, but we are just too busy at the moment.

If Slitherine is aiming to get Armageddon out by Xmas, then PzC should have its devs back for the start of 2015. Judging by the DLC packs taking 1-2 months each and SC being 2.5x that length, I'm saying May 2015 (5mo).

Also, I know that Finland is confirmed to come back, which probably means a 1939 start point, as well as obvious '41 and '42 points.

However I don't think that Khalkhin Gol is going to be in it - they probably wouldn't add Japan if there were no plans for a Pacific Corps, and knowing that SC has a couple of graphics included in v1.23 but Pacific doesn't, I say that it is very unlikely. (and it would need some engine tweaking - the AI is quite bad at naval landings.)

Starting point should be a tank, an artillery piece, a fighter and a couple of infantry being "tested" in the Spanish civil war.

Unfortunately there's no Spanish units, and I don't see why the devs would add them for 1-2 scenarios.

The devs aren't the modders though! They see no point in adding so much for so little! (or at least that is how I understand things)

Depends on what developers you`re talking about. PG2 for example did have spanish units and they were only used in the first scenario.

I'm talking about the devs of PzC.

With exceptions of Poland and Norway (which you can't not include), all units in PzC had appearances in at least 2 scenarios (except for minor things and forts eg. Brest). And even the Poles now have 8 or so appearances with GC39.

However, SC is not the base game, but an expansion. Unless the Spanish civil war was going to be a major part of SC (much like Vichy in AK), I would see it as totally pointless.

Pointless?
It would be a place for your units to earn experience.

I think you misread what I wrote a bit.

I see it as though there is no point to add all the units, graphics etc. that would be needed to add both Nat. and Rep. Spain if they aren't going to make up a large part of the campaign (if 3+ /30 scenarios use them then it is a good idea however).

How hard can it be to add them.
You take Polish and Italian units, rename them and voila. Like they did with pretty much every other nation.

I dont think you have to do this. Just rename the inf and basic artillery + add basic russian and german hardware. Most of the units are there already.
From what I found in a quick search is the artillery used was:
- Canon de 75 M1897 (France). A 75mm gun
- 7.5-cm Infantriegeschütz 18 (Germany)
- 15-cm schwere Infantriegeschütz 33 (Germany)
- 76.2mm Field Gun Model 00/30 (Soviet Union)

Tanks:
- BT-2 (Soviet Union)
- Bt-5 (Soviet Union)
- Panzerkampfwagen I (Germany)
- Panzerkampfwagen II (Germany)

Fighters
1- Messerschmitt Bf 109 (Germany).
2- Polikarpov I-16 (Soviet Union)
3- Fiat G.50 (Italy).
4- Heinkel He 51 (Germany).
5- Fiat CR-32 (Italy).

Bombers:
1- Junkers Ju 87 “Stuka” (Germany).
2- Breda Ba.65 (Italy).
3- Tupolev SB (Soviet Union).
4- Svoia-Marchetti SM.81 (Italy).
5- Junkuers Ju 52 (Germany).
6- Polikarpov R-5 (Soviet Union).
7- Polikarpov I-15 (Soviet Union).

Yep. Thats pretty much it.
You give the player a couple of 36 inf with some lower stats than the 39 inf, a T-26, a 76mm artillery and a I-16 plane. And place it in a distant scenario where those units where present during the civil war.
Battle of Belchite for example.

I still remember fondly playing some mod for Panzer General II, where you started as the Soviets in Spain ´36. I kept and cradled one unit of Brigada International all the way to ´45 were I had them capture Berlin. There is a famous German hymn from the international brigades which expresses the wish to free Germany from Hitler after freeing Spain from Franco.

Soviet Corps needs a warming up in the Spanish Civil War !
