Question about army lists

Hi,
I just picked up the Rise of Rome army list book, and I have a question about allied lists. If I include any allies with my army, do I have to take the minimum number of units on the allied list?
For example, I have Parthians, and let's say I want to include some Cataphract camels from the Hatra allies. The Hatra list shows a minimum of 1 commander, 4 horse archers, and 6 foot archers. Are these minimums only used when building a stand-alone Hatra army, or must I take these also when using them as part of the Parthian army?
A second question: My Parthian horse archers are LH armed with Bow. According to the rules for shooting, LH only use one die for every two stands in range. My guys do not roll one die for every front rank stand and one for every two in the rear rank. Do I have this correct?
Thanks very much.

You have to take all the minima in the allied list. If there was full Hatrene army list the numbers would be higher.
To get the cataphract camels you must take and ally general, 4 light horse and 6 foot archers then you have have other troops from the allied list but remember thay can only be commanded by the ally general.

Yes, light horse with bow get one dice for every two bases in the first or second shooting rank.

Oh, absolutely! My game group had been playing mostly Warmaster Ancients up to now, and my Parthian army was widely despised because of the difficulty in catching those pesky horse archers. I'm already seeing a lot of potential for mayhem with FoG with my LH, and eagerly look forward to being despised again under these new rules!
By the way Richard, thanks for producing such a great set of rules. My friend and I played our first game last week, and really had a ball!

Absolutely, I love to be despicable with horse archers.

There is definitely a whole area of skill to be developed in using light horse archers effectively. I know that at Usk when I played against a Parthian army they got themselves into a bit of trouble by not getting the "lanes" for their evades right which resulted in a couple of burst through catafract moments
Mind you I had an amusing LH moment in a game last night - slipped a BG of LH archers round the enemy, contacted their fortified camp, promptly rolled the necessary 6 to sack it and then immediately passed the CMT to stop looting. Romans standing around looking bemused. Fantastic value for 48 points

Would have been even better value at 32 points.

Nah, they needed to be a BG of 6 to do some effective shooting up of Velites earlier in the game.
A companion BG of the same troops even managed to force a BG of legionarii behind fortifications to CT - they passed, of course, but getting them to test was an achievement
Good night all round really as Mithridates of Pontus 25-0ed a late Republican Roman - what is the Pontic for veni vedi vici
