Defending Hedges

I've had a couple of instances where I have seen a Pike Kiel charge a mixed Pike and Shot unit with the latter defending behind a hedge obstacle but in open terrain. It looks to me as if the PIke Kiel POA bonus is being nullified during Impact although they are receiving it in the subsequent melee.

My reading of the POA table seems to suggest that the Kiel should get the bonus in both phases but I may have mis-read this and I can't see any reference to the obstacle nullifying it.

In open terrain with no obstacle the Kiel bonus is present in both impact and melee.

Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong with my calculations here?

Thanks

Attacking across a hedge (or other obstacle) nullifies Open Terrain POAs.

I appreciate that it isn't explicitly stated in the manual, but the term obstacle does imply obstruction.

Many thanks for the speedy response.

But only at impact rather than in the following melee I guess.

No, it still isn't open, but the Keil bonus applies in non-open terrain in melee (unless the keil is severely disordered by the terrain), just not at impact.

Ah yes, of course, should read the terrain section more closely as well as the POA table :?

Thanks again both for the replies and for an excellent game.
