Shooting from buildings, castles and fortifications

Dear Commanders,

I am relatively new to the FOG system, so have a quick question. Apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere.

How do the rules in FOG:AM cover shooting from inside the buildings: e.g. shooting at the forces sieging a building/castle/fortification whist standing on top of it or shooting via arrowslits (if provided by the building/castle model)? The only terrain type (as far as I could see in the rules) that covers buildings is a Village, which provides cover if the battle groups/bases are wholly inside the building. However, I couldn't find an explanation for the shooting situations explained above. How do you tackle such situations/scenarios?

Thanks in advance.

The relevant bits of the rules are the village terrain feature and field fortifications.

There's a definition of the effects aof terrain in the rules appendices. Villages count as cover (so you need a better dice roll to hit troops in them). Shooting from a village is I think front rank only, and troops are often disordered - the effect of both being to reduce the number of dice thrown. So shooting to and from is not very effective.

Field fortifications give cover (harder to hit) except against artillery but do not give any shooting downside to troops defending them.

While this rule set doesn't aim to cover sieges, you could do the assault bit of a siege if you use the field fortifications rules for the defenders.

In terms of arrow slits bear in mind this rule set is aimed to recreate big battles, so is a couple of orders of magnitude up from arrow slits etc.

There was someone who posted something about 3 or 4 months ago about modified rules for siege warfare.

As Graham has said, these rules (most wargame rules that I've come across) don't really handle sieges. It is either the battle before the siege or similar that is being fought and at the end of that you can decide how the siege goes using a dice roll if you want.

Battles were very rarely in such close proximity to a battlefield that they would be able to engage the enemy with missiles.
