I wonder who came up with the initiative-chooses-terrain-and-such but the other dude moves first...

...romans vs spanish, romans are happy to choose something other than craggy hills as terrain...but the spanish flanks end up half way across the table in the first move!!!...and needless to say, their centre hangs back, twiddling, well, whatever they might twiddle to irritate the romans further...while it takes the roman centre several turns to cross the gap...meanwhile being beat upon the flanks...

...but, evil soul(s) that came up with that one...

...if the spanish gain initiative...bloody hills and crags and such everywhere :)

must say...i love it :)

...and it's also nice to be able to move everything each turn if you want!...

...now...if i can just get over the fear of rolling handfuls of dice :)

that is until you play one of the steppe armies with an IC - and they choose steppes as their terrain! Going first doesn't do you much good then!! ~army huddled in a corner~ :(

The method chosen generally provides a nice balance rather than giving too much advatnage off a single dice throw.

It also adds strategic complexity to many decisions on the table top.

We found this simple change improved games a great deal and therefore stuck with it.
