Cannot start game with modded scn files?

hi folks
I am running the matrix v 1.04 of the game - I modded a scn file, just to get my feet wet. Copied the edited file over to the data/scenario folder in the game install directory.
Now, the game wont start properly - just when it would go to the java/osprey LOADING GAME screen, it dumps to desktop. Tried moving the ww2_eng.txt file also - no diff.
Delete the scenario I modded - starts right up.
Am I doing something wrong? Or is the editor only for the slitherine version?
thanks!

The scenario editor is not very friendly and allows you to break the game so it may be you set up somethign the game cannot handle. Best to post questions on the modders forum and get others to help you out.

Doh , so it is.
If you can give details of what you changed it might help people to narrow down the problem.

I have been having the same problem. If I make any subtle change like giving Germany +2 Subs, then copy the scn file into the game folder, the game crashes to desktop. Any ideas?

I noticed the game is very sensitive to changing the map file. If you change the map file then you need to load EACH of the scenarios with the new map file and save it. I'm talking about the 1939.scn, 1940.scn .... 1944.scn.
If you forget to do this to all scn files then the game will crash when it tries to compile each scenario. You will have to copy the changed map file with the TXT file with the city names etc. from the editor to the game folder. Then all SCN files must be copied too. If you forget one file then game will crash on the inconsistency.
I've also noticed the TXT files are sensitive to what kind of editors you use to edit them. If you use e. g. Microsoft Excel to edit then then the saved TXT file from Excel may become corrupt. I've found that using Wordpad or Notepad will work best. This is probably because these are simple text editors. But I like to use e. g. Excel for the technology.txt file to see all the rows and columns correctly. The problem is that after you save then you may also save some formatting and the game can't read these files.
I've also experienced the crashes you have and when that happened I just started over with the mod. I got all the original files back and first edited the map, then I edited the scenario I wanted by first loading the edited map. Then I loaded the map for all other scenarios and saved again. This is absolutely necessary even though the scenarios didn't change.

Thanks for the info and tips. I'll be sure to keep your tips in mind if I ever get brave enough to make map changes. It turns out I had the 1.00 version of the map editor. Must not have noticed the link when I downloaded the patch.
One other pitfall I came across - you have to load the map into the editor prior to loading an scn file even if you don't plan on making map changes.

If you don't load a map first, the scn file will be about 5k smaller and won't load in the game. It does say to load the map first in the manual, but I assumed that was only needed if you were going to make changes to the map.
