Playing online.. how to

Hi!

Got my copy and the first thing I wanted to do was to play online. It was a bit of struggle, but not to difficult.

I figured I'd start a thread for tips and any guestions people might have logging on.

Here's some general info stuff I ran into.

1) You don't have to log into Gamespy to play. I dunno but for some reason I thought you did.

2) I use windows XP, and it didn't work because of the firewall. Go to configuration > firewall and add "arena" to your list of allowed programs.

3) To get to the online chat and game interface click on the icon up at the top of the regular game menu that says "Start an internet game." This really doesn't start a game, it just takes you to the chat room where you can challenge and play.

4) It's a good thing to make and save at least 2 very different armies before going online. This way, when you play you have more opportunities to fight, especially if it is against the same player. And especially if the dude has a really specialized army.

5) Your probably going to make lots of different armies. I recommend saving the armies with a title which will remind you what they are.. something like "R.Inf.2000D.5000X".. which is basically a Roman Infantry army based on 2000 Dinari and 5000 Experience points.

Well, that's all I have for now. Hopefully the community can help people out if they have difficulties getting on line.

I agree with your idea of the armies you have premade
I have started coding them so I know what size and XP they are.

It also saves time when you get to the lobby as someone else will jump into the available games. There were 4 or 5 people in there earlier

Hi!

Actually, it appears you don't have to put how much Dinari or Experience on the title of your army, the computer will add it on to the name automatically.

Arena includes NAT negotiation so you might not need to open any ports at all :)

Thanks for the fast reply :)

I thought the same thing.. so ive been trying it for the last few days but no matter when i go on, no games show up, so i presume that its the ports blocking it.

Only a very small number of people have the game. So far only those that have bought direct from our online shop. This means the lobby will probablybe a bit empty right now. The game goes on general release in Europe tomorrow & the US next week. So we know everyone who should have a copy of the game, as they have to register on our forum before they can use the shop ;)

I can't wait for more people to get online, the multiplayer is by far my favorite thing in the game. I burnt through the single player too fast to keep my self interested, stupid addictive personality.

Play it on the hardest setting - that should keep you out of mischief ;)
