I may be missing something in the Army Lists. Some troops are listed under "Core Troops" But take Seleucid Thorakitai, one must field between 0-6. This means they are optional. (This is not the only incidence).

So I am wondering if somewhere I am told that a certain percentage of the army must come from Core Troops. But I can not see it

The core troops are troops that might be found in an absolutely typical army, the "optional troops" less so. It is simply a guide for beginners.
