My 15mm chariots are based 40mm wide by 50mm deep (could not get 'em on 40mm depth!). Would this affect play with these rules?.

Nope, it doesn't matter.

You can use deeper bases if these are necessary to fit the figures on.

Extra depth of bases has a very slight impact on the game but it is negligible and allowed to fit larger models or figures based for other systems.
