BA2 PC Running in Wine OSX?

Hi!
I was able to run the EAP-PC versions of BA2 in Wine under OSX. So far, I've not been successful with the full version. Has any Mac user had success running BA2-PC full version in Wine? If so, what what were your settings?

Maybe you could join the Mac beta and have it running natively?

There's a Mac beta happening? How does one get involved in this?

Ditto. Never saw the OSX beta announcement and I've play tested a fair number of Slitherine titles. I usually get an email.

Hi Vicco,
What happens when you run the program? Does it just NOT start and lock everything up?
I have found that in LINUX, my OPTIONS.TXT file was missing. The program tried to default to 24 Bit color depth. My card is not setup for that for whatever reason (it can go to 32 bit!). In a thread in Tech Support there is the guts of OPTIONS.TXT with an option to Use16Bit...probably to set it to such instead of trying to find the highest color setting.
I've not tried it yet as I am at work now. I'll give it a whirl when I get home.

The OSX beta isn't officially open yet. So stay tuned!

Hi John,
Thanks for the reply.
When installing the game in Wine, it asks if it should install DirectX & a 2nd module (Netframework?; sorry I'm not so familiar with Windows anymore). It's that 2nd module that gave a message that there was an error during installation. I never had that message for the EAP's when installing in Wine. Looking forward to your experience with the txt file.

Hi Vicco,
I resolved the issue. Since the game does not load initially, OPTIONS.TXT never gets written. My resolution is here.

It will likely work for you as well. I do not believe you need to load DX9 or Net Framwork (the second package). Both are included in the various iterations of WINE. My version, BTW is WINE 1.6.something.
So the answer is to create the OPTIONS.TXT file in the My Games folder using notepad. The defaults are in the thread above. Use16Bit =1. That should get the game to launch.

Hi John,
I'm on a business trip at the moment. I'll give your suggestion a try when I'm back home this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi John!
Copy & pasted the parameters for OPTIONS.TXT in the thread you mentioned & changed Use16bit parameter to Use16bit 1. Put that txt file in the Wine installed Battle Academy 2 folder.
The game started up to the splash screen. When I clicked the Play button, the game gave a message that it would first check the internet & then nothing from then on. Waited about 5 minutes then just rebooted my Mac.
Maybe I did something wrong with the text file? Any suggestions are most welcome.
I also hope that the Mac beta will be released soon. (Calling Pip!!)

Hmmm....There was a suggestion by Paulus on the thread to try disabling Full Screen as well. But, if nothing else, yeah. The Mac Beta might be your last best option.

Hi John,
Tried all the suggestions & BA2 still won't work in wine ... at least for me. I guess I'll have to run it in Parallels for the moment. Thanks for your suggestions on this issue.
Paging Pip!! What's the status of the Mac beta version? (picture grovelling adult)
