Am curious how people run the large warmobs...two lines across?...12 pak 3 lines of 4??...if you stretch them out, don't they just end up taking enough hits to knock their cohesion down anyway?...
trying to get a handle on how best to run ancient spanish

I have found BGs of 10 are very effective. That allows you to have a 4 base frontage, plus 2 bases in the 3rd rank to cover for the inevitable casualties. Having a 3rd rank also helps to avoid the "hits per bases" cohesion test modifiers.
BGs of 10 (average troops) break on a 5, which is the same break point as if they were superior.

A BG of 10 average troops will auto break on 5 losses, 10 superiors will not autobreak till they have lost 6.
Running warband in BG's of 10-12 in more than 2 ranks as above is however a good plan.

I would run a mob 4 wide 3 deep for 12 stands.
or 3 wide 3 deep for a 9 base unit.
It would give you a lot of lillte squres to push around plus being a smaller frotage you could me more flexible in bad terrain and add 2 together in better terrain.

Only mixed BGs can have an odd number of stands in them and the Spanish don't have any mixed BGs. The advice about 3 ranks is very valid though.

the 3 rank plan is areally good way to deal with a missile heavy opponent. I chased a Mongol around with Ancient Britons by goign 3 day and rarely had to take any tests from shooting.
Against a melee opponent it is worth going for more width - especially to maximise the benefit of generals in the front rank. I like to do 12 5 wide with 2 at the back. That gets 10 dice upgrades from a TC and keeps 2 spare to absorb the casulaties that inevitably come from the type ofs logging matches they get engaged in.
