Are you talking about a custom campaign you are building? If so you need to change/add a SIDES.TXT file to have the sides set up the other way around.

It works in the same way in MP battles IIRC. I think you also need to set up the IDS_SIDETYPE0 and 1 correctly to get the right display.

Hi Pip/Granfali,
Did this ever get solved? I think I have the same problem... I want to let the Germans move first in an MP scenario...
Thanks guys,
GL88

Thanks Granfali! If u can't do it, then I'm sure that I can't figure it out...
Looks like I'm stuck with Russians going first then...
Hmmm... I wonder if there's a way to 'skip a turn' so that turn 0 just doesn't happen...?
It's not exactly elegant, but I guess that way we could force the BA2 engine to let side 1 move first...?
(There's bound to be a catch!)

It works just fine having Germans going first. Check my Near Smolensk scenario:

Hmmm... Interesting. Do u remember how u did it, P-A?
Did u manage to set Germans to side 0 in the Editor?
Or something more cunning...?

I'm using Sides.txt and IDS_SIDETYPE just like Granfali shows above. I guess it's it's your VTB scenario? I could try and see if I can get it working.

Thanks P-A, Am out right now, but let me try it this evening...
I have to show u the new intro screen map + animations for Seelow v1.2...
And, yes, I confess, I'm building in the Authie 'play it in waves' gameplay, to keep play experience up and unit overload down (Authie is awesome!).
You're gonna love it (hopefully)

Was thinking about the whole Leaders thing too...
What if, instead of creating actual 'Leader' units, any unit which has managed to get itself promoted to elite (3 stripes) gains Leadership skills (rally, etc)?
Am not sure if this would work, but if it did, it could make leaders more dynamic... And really add incentive to gain promotions...
(This thought came out of your making Authie's Leaders 3-stripers to make them more visible!

)

I did a quick test adding Sides.txt and IDS_SIDETYPE to VTB and it works fine, the Germans going first. Most work is to remove all units from the previous version and adding them again...
Can't wait to play your next release

Now I understand your question how to find out what experience level a unit has. Interesting idea. Guess that's something for Enric to add to his leader script.
Removing all elite bonuses for leaders and changing some other stats would make them less super humans.

Thanks P-A,
I assume I still place the German units as normal in the Editor, as 'side 1' German flagged units?
And then add the changes above...?

You have to remove all units (German and Soviet) before or after you change things in the text files. Then you change sides in editor, Side0 as German och Side1 as Allies. Now you can replace all units and they belong to the correct side. You have some work to do...

Haha, no kiddin!
Uhm... Problem... Is it definitely spelt COLOUR (Brit way) not COLOR?
I've just added the SIDES.TXT file as above, and the
IDS_SIDETYPE0, “Axis”,
IDS_SIDETYPE1, “Allies”,
lines into my TEXT1.TXT
Now BA2 hangs up when I choose that Campaign in the Editor... Just stalls on the loading stage... Huh???
