This has happened in two games in a row. As soon as I click the end turn button the game crashes to desktop. Originally I thought it was linked to upgrading units, but it seems to be happening whether I upgrade them or not. I am using version 1.5.1 that I got off steam a few days ago. Everything should be included in this one file. The save called "right before I upgrade" is after all the moves I made but before I started to upgrade units.

First Q, did you try the Steam Beta patch yet? As we had a bug in the Steam installer, read here:

Or is this a non-Steam version, as in this case a Beta patch is also on the way as all versions are basically the same.

But it takes some time to provide an installer and patch for the non-Steam and iPad versions.

I am using the steam version. I have also added the "d_ai" file earlier. Will this cause issues with the patch? I stupidly forgot to backup the original as well. I am still having the same issue with the game crashing when I click end turn on my old save file. Do I have to start a new game for the Beta to take effect? I can repost my save and log again if you like.

What you can do in Steam is verify your game cache, make sure you use the Beta, start a new game and see if this solves your problem.

If not, yes please post all your data and we see what is going on on your system and how we can fix it.

All files successfully validated. Will the new d_ai file that was posted for the MP crashes a while ago have an effect? If so could you post the original file for me to put in. I will start a new game after you reply and then get back to you.

d_m.ai I think was the file I replaced.

Just verify your game cache this will overwrite any changes made on Steam, than select the beta as described and start a new game and see if it solves your problems.

So started a new game with all your suggestions got to turn 12 and everything was fine. Tried to upgrade my units and when I clicked end turn I CTD again.

Hi, could please describe which unit you are upgrading? It crashes then right? We are not able to reproduce your problem

Well I just tried a third game and again when I get to a point where I try to upgrade units (all Entente infantry units) and again it froze on me. I just upgraded my video drivers and sound drivers and did all the things suggested in this forum, but no dice.

I just restarted my computer and tried again. I don't know what changed but suddenly the turn worked. I will let you know if I need any more help. Thanks for the fast response time!

Hey, I was just about to replay that I am not able to reproduce Loaded your save, ended a turn (without doing anything) and after AI turn fished I upgraded every single unit (not just Infantry) without problems.

Just played through 4 more turns and then it crashed again. No upgrading troop this time.

So strange, I cannot reproduce and continue your game, just to be 100% sure:


- Close Steam

- Restart your computer

- Make sure in your Steam Library you have Commander: The Great War [beta] listed, so we know the Steam beta is active.


Download and upload the autosave here, that is your game I could continue.

I started the game back up after the crash and did nothing else and it ran fine through 10-15 turns. Strange indeed.
