Help!

I am a long time war gamer...when I was younger I loved Avalon Hill's Panzer leader and Arab Israeli wars..also played Victory in the Pacific quite a bit and various other board games. So I have some experience and counter and hex games.

I bought Commander: Europe at war as it looked right up my alley. However, I just cannot figure it out. I usually play the allies and the German forces just cut through me like a knife through butter. I can have 3 "10" strength french force stacked behind one another and 1 german tank group destroys them all. The AI was even stupid enough to place his german tanks near the ocean and I brought in an English fleet to bombard them which did nothing..most of the time it goes like this :I attack a german infantry with an English infantry both 10 strength..they lose 1 I lose 5 points... then the german tank groups with a strength of 7 attacks my French tank group with a strength of 10..and i Lose 5 points and the Germans lose 1..I am about to give up on this game as it seems that unless you chose the german side, it is hopeless...

ok - you haven't understood the combat system mechanisms yet :-) there are lots of factors and Step Strength is only one.

early in the game all the other factors mean the allies are weakand in fact will be weaker until 1943 depending on lab strategies.

I recommend 2 things:

1. look at an in depth AAR Ronnies are great ( rkr1958)
2. play a human who is happy to help you understand the game
