Steam Beta patch is up!

Hey, Beta fixes are now on Steam.

1) Right-click CTGW in Steam library
2) Click properties
3) Beta tab
4) From the list choose "Beta"

CTGW should now automatically update

It is a Beta patch for people who had:

- Install or Start problems as there was a bug in the Steam installer.

- At random occasional CTD on end turns.

- AI hanging or very long AI turns due to an AI looping bug.

Just select beta and you will see in your Library list Commander: The Great War [beta], it will patch automatically.

Same to return to without the beta and select NONE- opt out from all beta programs, Steam will auto patch you back to the original version.

Just select beta and check your library list, than you have the beta.

- Close Steam

- Restart your computer

- Make sure in your Steam Library you have Commander: The Great War [beta] listed, so we know the Steam beta is active.

It is a test Beta patch, but please anyone suffering from the above problems, please try the Beta patch and give us some feedback if it solved your problems.

original post:

To all that AI turn exceeds few minutes:

1a) On non-Steam: go to your game installation directory, then enter data/scipts/ai

1b) On Steam: right-click Ctgw in your game library -> properties -> local files -> browse local files -> enter data/scripts/ai

2) put attached (unapcked) d_m.ai file to that directory (make sure it replaces the one that is already there)

3) try loading and continuing your game

Doesn't work. Now the game crashes during the AI turn :(
I've attached my latest save just in case.

Ah, so this turn was endless before this fix? It does work then, turn is no longer endless :P

Jokes aside, now problem is different so fix might still works for some. Will be working on your new problem next. Sorry for inconvenience!

The patched d_m.ai file allowed the game to continue without 30 minute delay. Great work on speeding up the AI Turn!

New bug now: After a few turns, the game now crashes to desktop. Apparently the AI purged their Admiral Corps at the wrong time.

[19:03:27][1720]*** Starting naval AI ***
[19:04:11][1720]Resume: false, ai/s_t.ai:0: attempt to index field 'unit' (a nil value)
[19:04:11][1720]Lua error: [C]:-1(global error) :34: ai/s_t.ai:0: attempt to index field 'unit' (a nil value)

Tried to attach log file but Forum says extension log is not allowed.

As frustrating as this issue is, especially on a first playthrough, it is good to see developers working quickly to find a solution. Games get glitches, things break, shit happens. But you guys seem to be solid dudes who stand by your work so I don't mind being patient while you sort it out.

I'm choosing the see the AI turn not playing out because I did such a good job of confusing them with my superior tactics. Poor buggers are outfoxed, that's all.

I am using the steam version. I have also added the "d_ai" file earlier. Will this cause issues with the patch? I stupidly forgot to backup the original as well. I am still having the same issue with the game crashing when I click end turn on my old save file. Do I have to start a new game for the Beta to take effect? I can repost my save and log again if you like.

I posted this in my thread as well.
