It was at our annual Home of Wargamers event earlier this year that we surprised press and public alike with the announcement of Pike and Shot, a brand new game developed by Byzantine Games and The Lordz Games Studio, set during the 30th Years War. With the game releasing later this year, the time has come to invite all those who are willing and able, to sign up for the beta test of this unique strategy game! By signing up for the beta, you will have a chance to experience the game before release and to help us eradicate those pesky bugs and balancing issues.

In the age of Pike and Shot, mighty struggles erupted across Europe for causes religious, political or dynastic. The Thirty Years War raged across Germany and beyond, leaving devastation in its wake, but saw the rise of great commanders such as Count Tilly, Wallenstein and King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, and rapid developments in battlefield tactics. Musketeers “gave fire” in a duel to the death, pikeman held stolidly against enemy assaults, and cavalry charged to glory or defeat. You can take command in the greatest historical battles of the war, fight stand-alone “what-if” scenarios, or design your own scenarios using the easy to use editor.

This resembles Battle Academy... Would I be right in guessing that they use the same engine?

It uses the same "Stub" engine but the things that make you think BA are probably work in progress and not complete yet. By the time its done it wont be recognizable :)

I am waiting for a game about TYW (1618-1648) for at least 10 years, it is very strange that this period full of wonderful campaigns, leaders and battles ( Breitenfeld, Lutzen, Nordlingen, Wittstock, Freiberg, Allerheim, and so on........ till Jankow and Zursmarshausen) is so neglected by the game market. Very good Slitherine, and thanks very much.

Let's see: basically everything except the units and flags resemble it. Even the end turn button!

Well, I'll be interested to see how much it looks like BA at release time!

The same underlying engine is used, but the combat mechanics (which are not part of the engine) are entirely different.

Gee, I wonder if the combat mechanics might bear any resemblance to FoG-R? (Already signed up for the beta.)

They do, Chris, albeit tailored to suit the computer model.

Is the beta PC/windows only, or is there one for Mac or iPad also?
