Not as good??? Different, perhaps. "Better" is one of those Coke/Pepsi issues, and I won't get offensive and call your favorite names if you don't insult mine. Why did CA make RTW and copy Legion I?

the total war legacy has been going on longer that black bean game and slitherine. therefore it was there duty to bring out a sequel rtw.
also why is there no one on the playonline list?

Whoa... You got your copy already?
And if you did, you noticed it is not the same as RTW. Very, very different, in fact.
If you didn't get it, then what the heck are you talking about?
And on a side note, while RTW might have sold well, that doesn't make it top of the market- just the most recent hyped up game. I didnt like it, though I hear that barbarian invasions was leagues better.
Starcraft probably has more sales anyways.
And RTW isn't even in the same genre as Legion Arena. As far as I know, there isn't really anything that is.
Anyways, why did RTW rip off AoE the rise of rome? That has been going on since before anybody heard of total war, much less RTW.
And legion 1 is a roman simulation game that came out around the same time as shogun. I think I still have the PC gamer article somewhere.
Nobody is on the play online list because you are probably the first guy to get a copy- one of the first, anyways.

they are in the same catagory and why would anyone want a bad game???

No, no they aren't. RTW does not allow you to customize your squads the way legion arena does. It requires you to build and maintain an empire, something legion arena does not.
Legion arena is more of an RPG than a RTS. TW is not a RPG. Therefore, they are in different genres.
The reason people want bad games is because they often get advertised by big publishers, and a lot of hype builds up around them, and they are sequels to big games. And then it turns out the hype was over a buggy frustarating thing like Rome Total War, which had excellent predeccesors and a good expansion, but sucked wind as a stand alone.
Legion Arena seems to be a good game from the demo and the innovative ideas, such as squad customization.
RTW was mediocre, with none of the reeedmeing features of MTW(decent game with cutthroat AI) and STW(innovative game), and the demo was not very enjoyable(AI that makes marbles look sharp, and bricks look bright, with no really new features).

So my friend,
Tell me, which battle are you currently fighting on the solitaire (campaign) mode?
And what is your favorite unit?
Have you discovered any good tactics against the elephants?
Did you noticed how effective is to charge from the rear with your heavy cavalry?
Of course, I guess you have level up your cavalry to higher levels of tremble... and don't forget in later levels to buy those German horses, or were these horses Sarmatian??
You have so much to learn... from this very nice game!!!
Give it a try and you will see how good it is!
I have finished the whole Roman campaign 6-7 times the last year and still I am passioned to replay it!!
cheers mate,
Pyros

Glad to see you are getting into some aspects.
Personally, I want to try a missle-heavy army, with maybe a bit of anti-cavalry mixed in.

Legion II will be much closer to RTW as it will have a strategic map and tactical battles. But even then it will also be very different.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your campaign....

I haven't got the game yet, but I'd prefer to have some heavy specialist heavy infantry (anti-cavalry and anti-infantry) on the front, with some horse units for flanking purpose and some archers for killing enemy units (not my own archers units, as in good ole RTW:BI), but not too many...so I'll got problems in forests, I guess
RTW is a RTS???? You'd get banned in most RTW forums for saying this. Or maybe you just play "custom battle" option.
EDIT: You should read this post, BTW...

compared to LegionArena, RTW is kids' toy

While it isn't purely an RTS, it is very, very far from an RPG. RTS is the only place where the games do meet.
As for the strategy you posted.... While it does work fairly well, it assumes that the enemy is slow, and doesn't have counter units deployed. A refused flank might be better, with all the cavalry on one side, and one or two units of anti cavalry on the other, with the infnatry in the center.
Or, we can advance the infantry along the flanks, and charge in the cavalry only when their infantry are commited.

The RTS comment was for Aragorn, not for you!!

He's the RTW-lover who thinks RTW is a RTS.
My strategy is mostly crap, but I haven't got teh full game...yet. So in the demo I stucked with that

Actually, that strategy seems to work well against most computers, but you may want to develop a bit more if you plan to face a human opponent.
And I was wondering why you adivsed me to look at a thread I had commented on... I should have guessed.

Well I prefer Rome Total War at the moment but I like Legion Arena. Mainly because of the army experience and customization system. Legion II should really challenge RTW.

Well just having got off playing through the demo campaign, I am impressed.
Simple to operate the armies but with the right feel for the ancient period. As a wargamer I have been playing ancients battles for over 30 years and the sort of tactics that would work with miniatures rules, worked in Legion Arena as well.
As for Rome Total War, I sold it 3 days after I bought it. Just could not face a campaign with revolting slaves and the Senate issuing insane objectives.
So yes, this is much more the style of game I like to play.

As you possibly know we have a big background in table top gaming. I think if you played the multi player version you would see many similarities with TT gaming
Army selection, deployment, morale, terrain effectiveness are all there

why do the slitherine make a game like RTW but better and win the fans of RTW (mass fans from RTW and make it more modderable and more intelligent (AI) and then we what need the CA %$??& that don't do what the people want

We're really aiming to offer something different to TW rather than just do the same but better. With only 1 programmer, 1 artist & 1 designer we'd be hard pushed to beat them in head on fight
