Everyone might need the patch so as to both have identical games, might be the reason the lobby is so buggy.

I have no idea which patch you are talking about... can you provide a link or some of the herb you've been smoking?

If you're unable to establish a multi-player connection at all, and you did not purchase your game through Steam, this update should help resolve the issue. Note that there will shortly be an update to Gateway to Caen that will make the need for the hotfix obsolete.

Doest Steam automatic update the game, when there is a new patch?

I believe the steam version is the latest release EXE.
