I was wondering how to you play this situation:

Unit a: warriors on the very edge of terrian, but not out and all bases are in the terrian.
Unit b: standard 4+2 pike shot unit... On the very edge of the terrian. No bases in the terrian, unit fully in the open.

Unit a/b are in legal front edge contact.

During the impact/melee phases how do play the in the open/in terrian poa's And morale checks (wRriors/MF loosing to hf in the open)?

Both units are on the edge of the terrian and able to fight...

Well, for simplicity I'd say that it's an impossible situation. If the warriors are on the very edge of the terrain feature, they would have to be 'in the terrain' with their frontal edge back from the edge some very small distance. The P&S would therefore be 'in' the terrain if in frontal contact - OR - the warriors would have to be partially out of the terrain by some very small distance, in which case they are not wholly in the terrain.

Nigel,

Simple advice - if being in terrain gives you an advantage, always be 1mm in from the edge! Tht way you are in the vantage onus terrain and if your opponent chooses to fight you and he has no adavantages he must've fa to be "in terrain"!

So, Who ever initiated combat (charged) dictates the "terrain" rules to be applied until the fighting is resolved to be the ruling?

Which rules are applied depends on where the front edge of the defenders is. It has nothing to do with who charged.

so i go back to my origianl description. Using the a 6x4 rectangle that are common now. MF/warrior unit is in terrain on the very edge of the straight edge of the terrain rectangle and the P+S is touching the outer edge of the terrian but not phyisically overlapping you can end up on the table with the sitiuation where each bg is inside/outside the terrian and in legal contact along a frontend edge. If the terrian piece is irregular shaped then this situation cannot arise...

The Warriors are entirely within the terrain. If they lose Close Combat to the P&S they do not suffer a -1 on their Cohesion Test as they are not in Open Terrain. (If they were charged by Cavalry Lancers in an identical position, the cavalry would not get + POA for fighting Warriors in Open terrain (because the warriors are not in Open terrain), but would get + POA for Lance because the Cavalry are in open terrain.)

The P&S are not in the terrain, so are not disordered and count as steady (unless other conditions apply).

So keep them 1mm in or use more realistically shaped terrain.
