You're making me jealous I'm stuck here in the States. Please let us know when Rome becomes available on DVD. Do you know if BBC is likely to license it for rebroadcast on the History channel?

Well. I saw last tuesday's episiode and I must say the following:

- Bad acting.
- Bad script, too messy for someone who doesn't know the real story behind the plot (my girlfriend). I suppose it'll get better, though.
- Stereotypical characters (the legionaire and the optimuis or centurion or whatever and his wife...they're horrible).
- Low budget looking (well, I know, it is a TV show).
- Thank god for the non-gore battle scenes (I was expecting lots of blood and severed arms and heads, I don't like gore in my battles...Legion Arena?)

So...I didn't like it, but I won't miss episode 2 :D

Well, I must admit I've been too harsh on this...I've been watching until Cesarion is born and plot is more interesting and characters are more developed now. The two soldiers are as plain as ever, but at least they're funny (specially the big one). Cleopatra is not what I expected, though ...Not a hit, but certainly among the best we have on TV right now (..maybe "Six feet Under")

I'm not sure the producers would like to hear that... they spent apr. $100 mio on it...

I was actually looking forward to it until last night when I saw the "Behind the scenes" of the show. Turned me right off!

I thought this was ok, but i wrote an article on it and it was not well recieved (im a journalist and radio student at college you see  )
GrimSta wrote:Being 17 I shouldn’t really have a strong view on the BBC series “Rome”, or if I did it would be something along the lines of “wow, check out those tits!” – I would like to point out that that is not actually my main point of view; it just numbers amongst the many. The beeb really lowered itself in the eyes of many viewers by showing soft-core porno, I’m sorry I meant “Rome” for the 55 minutes it occupies on BBC 2.

It is historic I will give it that, but can it be historic without making my parents want to change channel? No, of course it can’t. Seeing as the show originally aired in America on the HBO Channel and people raved about there, the beeb must have thought, well we are Little America, us wannabe yanks would love to watch 55 minutes of brain numbing rubbish!!

I will admit that some parts were mildly amusing – such as a 12 year old Ptolemy XIV getting shouted at by the illustrious Gaius Julius (that’s Julius Caser in layman’s terms) or having a Legionary captain calmly and politely being told to “enter” Cleopatra as if it was as natural a command as being told to talk the dog for a walk or do the washing up. But again we come back to the fact that if we wanted to watch this sort of thing we would watch Channel 5 because that’s what its there for.

But then we come back to the age old Sex Vs Violence on television; what’s worse? Sex, breasts and backsides? Or death, destruction and blood spraying from former arms in wide and varying arcs, of course violence is ok, but sex and/or nudity isn’t – god alone knows why and by that I mean that I’m about as clued up on the reason as the previously mentioned Legionary Captain was on the why he was being told to screw a princess. I seem to remember watching Arnold Schwarzenegger’s film Commando in which he decapitates, shoots, maims, burns, steams and lightly fries many and varying enemies, but the last time I saw sexual content on a film at about 9 o’clock was a very long time ago (not counting Rome of course). And for the reference I saw commando when I was about 10.

Anyway, back on topic – Rome is porn, the work of Beelzebub and something all good patriotic British people should boycott, unless you want to see very naked women doing very provocative things and very big men cutting, other very big men with very big swords, which of course you do.
Yeah, i posted this at TWC and i got flamed for it :(

EDIT: If you read the article you'll notice its tongue in cheek, and slagging the BBC
