Purchased/downloaded full set w/campaigns from steam. Tried to open - won't launch. Won't launch from steam or my desktop icon. Steam had me redownload, then revalidate files; no effect. Their last 'fix' was to send me to you.

I'm operating a Windows 8.1 Sony Vaio. Most importantly, I'm no techie. Steam's first fix was a list of generic checks involving 'secondary drivers' and virus protection; I tried my best, but when their instructions deviated from what I found on my screen, I was lost.

BTW, one thing I noticed was the default directory is in a folder named 'Programs (x86)' instead of just plain 'Programs.' Don't have a clue if this has any effect; the target of my desktop icon says "steam://rungameid/268400" .

Can you help?

Sorry to hear you are having issues with Panzer Corps.

Are you logging to Windows as administrator?
To check if you are logged into Windows 8 as a user with administrative rights, please:
• Right-click in the bottom left corner of your screen, and then click Control panel.
• open User accounts
• click "Manage another account"
There will be all user accounts listed on the page. Each account has assigned some status (Administrator, Standard user, etc.). Please make sure that you are logged into Windows under an account with the status "Administrator".
If you are not sure which account you are using to operate Windows, please open the main User Accounts page. The current user is displayed in the right part of the page.

Yes, I'm listed as administrator, password protected.

Open the folder where the game is installed ( default. : Steam\SteamApps\common\Panzer Corps) and find a file named "PanzerCorps.exe". Press the right mouse button and select "Properties". Click on the "Compatibility" tab. Tick the option "Run this program as an administrator". Click on "Apply" and "Ok". Double click on "PanzerCorps.exe" for running the game and check if issue persists.

Some change - got to watch the opening movie. Then got the 'program has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution blahblahblah.'

Dumb (?) question - is there someplace I can check to ensure I completed the download, as it pertains to EULAs and such? I discovered that my upload had to EULAs in it that had failed to upload. When I tried to open them Word had crashed. I have a pdf EULA in the Word recovery panel, but not sure if it's steam or Panzer Crops - related.

Please open the folder where the game is installed and rename "Video" folder to "_Video" and "Audio" to "_Audio" and check if there's any difference.

Renamed _audio. There's no video folder. There's one called 'graphics'...
I've verified the integrity of the files five times. No success either way.

Sorry, Video folder is for the non-Steam version.
For Steam version, please rename "Expansion" to "_Expansion"

Sorry I didn't reply sooner.... I was conquering Poland, Norway and Benelux! Apparently renaming the expansion folder did the trick. Now, is this just a patch, or is there a more permanent fix?

BTW, I also have a folder named 'expansion2' - should I rename it also?

The issue seems to be related with your video codecs.
I wouldn't care much about the issue, as that folder only have the video intro.
Don't forget to rename back "_Audio" back to "Audio", otherwise the game sounds will not be played.

I was having a similar issue since Steam updated last night.

After making both the exe and the autorun files 'Run as Admin' it seems to be working using Steam.

Howdy, Slitherine. I purchased this game during a very recent Steam (two days ago, in fact). Unfortunately, I've been running into a pretty similar problem to the OP's issue. I access the launcher via Steam, and it works until I click on the "Play Panzer Corps" button- nothing happens! I can play the game thanks to my SteamApps folder, running Running Panzer.exe. Of course, this is inconvenient and it does seem to unlock any Achievements (I beat the tutorial).

Also, I tried doing what the post above mine suggested, and no luck.

Any help would be appreciated!

@Try installing the game in a different folder than C:\Program Files (x86)\...., for example C:\Games\.....
