I try to start the game, double click the Commander.exe and there is a "PUMB" sound and message:
"The JVM could not be started. The main method may have thrown an exception". WTF? How to launch the game?

Sorry you are having problems. Can you tell us your machine specs, operating system and which version of the game you have so we can help.

Of course.

Motherboard: ASUS P4P8XSE
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz (hyper-threading disabled)
Graphics Card: Ati Radeon 9600 128 Mb
2*512 DDR 400 Mhz PC3200 (working at 333 Mhz)

Software:
video driver version 8.421.0.0, Catalyst Control Center v.2007.0928.2231.38404
DirectX 9.0c december2007
Windows XP SP2
Game version: russian (Akella), I don't know what version the game is when installed, but I applied patch 1.4 (rus)

P.S. As I've got the game tries to start Java virtual machine, but fails. The reasons I can't find.

Could be that one of your RAM memory is having a hardware failure. Did you run the game at High Spec in the small popup you got and if that is the case can you try the low setting and see if it makes any difference?

Have you asked Akella if they can help you?

About RAM - I don't have any problems with other applications - arhivators, games and others. About specs - how can I try to start game at low settings if I cannot start it at all? About Akella - I wrote few letters to their techsuport but recieved only "update drvers of your videocard, motherboard, defragment your HDD" and other stuff... As expected, it didn't help a bit. So I hope for your help 'cause I want to play this game.

in settings.txt file in your installation directory,
set the
"LOW_RAM 0" and save. You will then be getting the peformance popup next time you start the game. Select the "Low" option, if the game works then and not with "High" then it is someting about the RAM on yhour machine that does not cope with the game or you have too little RAM.

"Low" setting is for those that are on the minimum spec i.e. 521 MB RAM.

If I may throw in a suggestion - maybe there is a problem wit Java that you have installed? What version is it?

That is correct by Borsook, it should be the Java if the game does not even startup. Java is dsitributed with the game so no new Java should be needed. You have to ask Akella.

Is there a folder named "jre" in the directory where you installed the game?
The game did not install correctly for you, are there are virus software or other protective software you can disable and try to install the game again fresh?

Yes, there is a folder jre. I tried to update my Java, but it said I'm already have the latest version.

Hi there,

seems I have the same problem. When I launch the game (German version) by doubleclicking the shortcut I get the option between high and low specs, whatever specs I choose the screen afterwards displays the splashscreen (Slitherine logo displayed) for less than a sec, a sound is to be heard and I return back to the desktop. Please note that I didn't install any patch 'til now.
I would appreciate if you gave me advice/assistance on that.

Thx in advance!
Tschli

My specs:
#System:
Operating System: Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_gdr.071023-1545)

Memory: 2046MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 10

I have the same problem I think, I looked at settings.txt and low-ram ist 0, so what can I do, I don't understand why it doesn't work my machine is about the minimum spec and I don't only have it from an illegal download site ... I have it from Gamesload (an official download site) ... so what's wrong.
I don't think I have hardware problemes und I have the latest update from java and I don't know what I can try else ... so please help me.

I bought it at the internet at www.gamesload.de. But the tech support at gamesload says it maybe a software problem or a hareware problem; but they don't want to help me or they are not able to do it ... I nearly tried all but I even have the problem, that when I want to start the game I allways get an error message that JVM coundn't be started. So do you know what the problem could be????

I've no idea ... but I want to play and I even still hope that I don't throw my money on the street!

Very likely a software conflict on your machine. Could be some secutiry sofware (virus checkers, firewall) or any other hidden software running on your operating system. Can you try on a 2nd machine?

I use kaspersky Internet Security 7.0, but I also tried it with kaspersky enabeled. But it still doesn't work. And I can't try it on a second machine ... but what do you mean with software conflikt ... what kind of software tool could be the problem. I only could imagen, that there could be a problem with kaspersky, but I tried it with kaspersky enabled - what other software may lead to conflicts.

Or have I to give up that I ever could play the game?

And in addition to that I have installed the dema version before I bought the game ... no problems with demo version ... then I deinstalled demo und installed the game.
Is this possible, that I don't have any problems with demo version, but with the bought version?!
