Far Eastern and New World Glory?

Hi.

As someone familiar with other historical wargames, such as Warmaster Ancients, I'm interested to see how Field of Glory develops - although there doesn't seem to be a lot on the site which gives a good example of how the system plays, so far at least.

However, I wanted to clarify if there were plans to do supplements which focussed on the Far East of Eurasia - covering Japanese, Mongol, Chinese, Korean and other such armed forces - and/or a book detailing the Western Hemisphere - which would cover the armies of the Mesoamerican empires and city-states, the mighty Inca Empire in South America, the various tribal peoples of Brazil, the Caribbean and other areas, and the Spanish Conquistadors (and Portuguese Bandeirantes) which faced them in the sixteenth century?

As an aside, does Field of Glory lend itself well to possible conversion into a Napoleonic-era game system?

The system in FoG Ancient & Medieval wargaming was designed specifically for that period. We did not want to try and create a generic system for all periods as it would not do any of them justice. It's possible that some of the mechanisms could be transfered to other settings. In practice I think you would find that to model them well you'd need a entirely different system. Warfare and tactics had changed significnatly by this period, with firepower being the dominant mechanism rather than melee.

A Napoleonic rules set is not something we would rule out investigating, as there is a significant fan base for this period.

It's true Iain , but we haven't a rule that would unanimously. And it's very difficult to have tournament for the napoleonic era.

Very true, my understanding of the Napoleonic gaming world is that almost every club uses a different set of rules (OK several clubs will use the same set but those that do are not near each other or even in the same country). I played napoleonics many year ago using the rather over complex Bruce Quarie rules and looked at WRG 1685-1850? or something.

I had high hopes for Horse Foot & Guns but it is in unpiblished limbo at present.

Another factor to consider is that basing for Napoleonics is much less "standardized" than for ancients. There are several different popular rule sets, each with a quite different basing scheme.

Cheers,
Scott

I'm not at all sure about Napoleonics but I would have thought FoG would adapt well to the Pike and Shot period. I don't know if there are any plans (I guess it all depends on how popular FoG is) but I would pay good money for a FoG equivalent of DBR - and for all the associated army books!

And there is more to Napoleonics than the likes of the Grande Armée - there are the kind of conflicts in South Asia such as at Assaye, and the kind of half-skirmish warfare seen in North America diring the Seven Years' War and the War of 1812, to boot.

But I wonder if I should have split these topics into different threads...

Oh, how many here would be looking forward to seeing either Far Eastern or Western Hemisphere sourcebooks for FoG?

Me! I have Samurai (doesn't everyone?) and would love an excuse to get some "suit-wearers".

Don't worry Nerroth, we'll get them:
