Grandad,
I'm presuming that they are armed with both lance and bow. But they fought as archers mostly, saving the lance until the enemy had been weakened by archery. Therefore they are bow, sword under the rules. Its very common for steppe armies, and for armies who contained steppes warriors such as Ghilman cavalry.
I hope this helps,
Andre

The Mongol use of the lance is well known. But they used it less like a lance that we think of the hard charging Knights.
We know they use bow fire as there primary battlefield weapon first.
The authors set out not to create super troops and had a rule saying no unit could have strong POAs in all circumstances meaning. Missile, Impact and Melee. So while they may have been tempted to break that for Mongols, they relied on what was the primary tool.
