Britcon 2014 - Friday, August 8 until Sunday August 10
It is now only 12 weeks until
Britcon, the biggest weekend in the BHGS calendar! If you have been thinking about entering
one of the 10 wargaming competitionsat this year's
Britcon, or even just visiting the Britcon Trade Show this is the ideal weekend to be booking your place as it's now that Network Rail will be releasing their cheapest fares* to Manchester over Britcon weekend.
Booking a train ticket 12 weeks out can be amazingly cheap - prices on TheTrainLine can be as low as £19 for London to Manchester return, so you may end up doing the whole weekend for peanuts with a bit of careful shopping around (plus the cost of beer..).
To get the best possible deal you can;
Britcon is held mere steps from Manchester Piccadilly Mainline station, and if you do travel by train you will not get stuck in traffic on Friday afternoon or Sunday evening, there are no parking fees, and no worrying about you car in the multi storey, and you can also have a couple of pints on Sunday lunchtime without worrying about the drink-drive limit... it's all good to be honest!
Wargaming Periods which will be on offer at Britcon 2014 include:
X-Wing (New Period - Sponsored by Grim Tree Games)
Field of Glory: Ancients & Medieval periods
Field of Glory: Renaissance
Field of Glory: Napoleonic
Saga
Flames of War (Late War)
DBMM
Epic Armageddon
Bolt Action
Warhammer 40k (Back Again!)
Full details of themes and competition rules are on
our website, together with details of our 2014 traders confirmed so far for the
Britcon Trade Show, but whichever way you choose to get to
Britcon, whatever you choose to play, or even if you just want to drop into the show and add to your lead mountain we hope we will see you across the gaming table in 2014, for what is already set to be an even bigger and better event than ever before!

Roll Call is now sold out, with another record attendance for a BHGS event this year.
So far we already have 90 players registered for Britcon, so potentially we are on track for another sellout in Manchester as well, partly as we have a couple of large demo games coming into the trade space, which will mean we have slightly fewer gaming tables in the larger hall.

We're now giving all players the chance to agree a game with a named opponent in the first round on Saturday evening - this has been christened
The Nemesis Challenge.
One additional benefit of running the Nemesis Challenge on Friday night is that some people can arrange to start (and end) their games earlier, thus getting another night out in Manchester. The venue should be available from just before lunchtime on Friday, so you have plenty of time to arrange a game, play it and get away before the evening rush - whether this will help in the morning after I'm not sure...
Current players signed up:

Hi Tim
First - crackin job on running Britcon. Well Done.
Now - having buttered up the organiser and the umpire - to business.
For the avoidance of any doubt the Nemesis round is the Friday one isn't it?
Alasdair
Look out, John Munro has murmered something about throwing his gauntlet at you! He might even challenge you to a Nemesis game! What a tussle that one would be - two previous winners in a show stoping opener. No biting lads!

Aye, well if he was biting Hunter , Luis Suarez would be getting a tetanus jag first.
As for having the temerity to challenge Alasdair, I know my place and my limitations.
I' m not worthy!!

Hah - changed your tune then!
I am sure I'm not alone when I say yes you are worthy.

Like any competitions I think it is all about army selection match ups, I am sure John would beat me if he designed an army to beat a mounted army but then would it win the other 5 games, same for me I could design an army to beat one style of army but would it win the other 5 games, now what to use as my list last year is now illegal due to rule / list changes, I sense a cunning plan there RBS,
anyway take care and see you there
Alasdair

Alasdair, almost as undecided as I am.
By the way certainly not my plan just to have an army designed for mounted for as you say I would then be leaving myself exposed to disastrous performances against other types of armies.

Yes, Friday - it's much easier all round for everyone (ie us poor mugs running the draw) if its that one!

Well, us probies (you need to be a NCIS fan for that one) - have decided, got my list into RBS and arranged my Nemesis game... and a game it will be... outcome will be either a scalp or a slap down
Simon recons his nemesis game will only take 30 mins... (stir, stir time)...

Nigel that is nothing. Simon Clarke and I are playing the first game which not only means I have a really hard opponent but one whose extremely well painted army will put my own to shame.
Double defeat looming, I fear.
