What is Field of Glory™?

Wasn't there a Russian company doing plastic historical 28mm? I never bought any and don't remember their name, but I recall seeing them on the shelf of hobby stores in Australia a few years ago. At least one of the boxed battle sets came with rules and dice. I think it was mostly medieval stuff, but I'm going from memory so they may have done more. They also had a fantasy range that included undead legionaires (Lost XIII Legion) but was otherwise aimed at the 'too cheap to buy GW' market.

I guess I can't challenge the WF claim if I don't even remember the name of the guys I'm trying to defend!

There are several companies doing plastic ancients figures but they are all "1/72nd" scale. Actually they are a bit bigger than that and some are very nice. If the Wargames Factory range expands rapidly and manages to deliver figures as good as the ones you can see on their site to cover multiple armies at the very low price they are quoting I suspect that the soft plastics could be in trouble. Lead 28mm maufacturers will probably be OK as long as they are producing figures that are not covered by WF.

Good stuff guys! About time someone gave us hard plastic wargames figures - now if only we could get 15mm :}

The miniatures look really good and the price is good. Just wish they also made 10mm or 15mm. That's the only size I game in because of playing area and economics and wanting large armies. I hope this venture works out.

While not enough to make me want to switch from 15mm, the genuine "one true scale," the new WF figs do look very nice indeed!

I can't imagine problems, as long as you clean the figures of any mould release agent before painting they should hold paint as well as if not better than metal. I don't ever remember losing paint from my old hard plastic Airfix kits even though their soft plastic figures could lose paint when they bent.

If "Hard Plastic" is polystyrene -its good to glue and paint (conversions are possible for the model makes too)
"Soft Plastic" Polyurethane is almost un-glueable and getting paints to stick requires special treatment

There are many hard plastic figures already on the market.

All are easily converted and painted. Just look in a GW shop.

My son has been gaming with them for more years than I think I want to remember.

15mm may be your prefered scale, but the competition is in 28mm.

All you need now is a chain of shops to sell it all in

Oh, I don't think we want to go down that road, even in jest. There are a number of historical gamers out there who are already primed to go crazy over even the slightest hint of another "evil empire."

This makes me sad. Fingers crossed the typical historical gamer has enough maturity to resist tall poppy cutting when FoG takes off.

One would hope so. And in all fairness, I do think that the majority of ancients gamers are indeed thoughtful and mature. However, experience has shown that there are a noisy handful who can be anything but.

There already seems to be some 'noise' on TMP about 'official' miniatures and not buying FoG as a result. There seems to be a certain amount of muddled thinking, possibly prompted by the slight differences between the news item from Wargames Factory compared to the measured Slitherine etc press release.

Nice figures I wish them well. Might well buy a box to paint up, but will not be buying to wargame as all my armies are 15mm.

I am just a "little" concerned about them being official. I hope we never get to the childish games workshop type approach where you can't use another manufacturers figures because they aren't official.

I know for an historical period that sounds plain daft but I have heard of some flames of war players refusing to play against people using miniatures from other manufacturers, I hope that is rare and does not catch on here.

I think you can be confident that there will be no GW style thought police in evidence at any FoG competition.

All of the parties involved in developing FoG have far too much invested in lead already to even countenance such a thought.
