Britcon 2014 Thread - including the Nemesis Challenge

For those of you who may be considering a visit to the UK for Britcon this August, we are toying with the idea of allowing either all players (or maybe just the overseas players?) in their FIRST game on FRIDAY evening (game 1) to play a "Nemesis Challenge" round - where you are free to agree before the tourney with a named opponent that you will play them in that game, as the first round is not seeded anyway

It will mean that if you have someone you always wanted to play and haven't, or especially if you are travelling from overseas and are hoping to play someone specific at Britcon that you may know from previous events (or from online banter), you can guarantee to be able to do so.

The main downside we can see right now is that it will almost certainly mean this will be the only time ever that the phrase "I'm sorry, but there is only one Dave Ruddock available in the UK right now" will actually be true.

Game ON!

(Book your place at Britcon now via that link...)

There is only one Lynda as well.
How about a charity auction for the "pleasure" of taking 25 pts off Dave

On reflection, having this as the first game on Friday would be a lot easier...!

Given us wargamers' propensity to exploit any opportunity this could be a licence to set up easy first round games?

And the hall is available for games all morning and afternoon if there's someone you particularly wish to play....

But if you are going to do this, the 1st round would make most sense.

The first round is unseeded anyway, we are still keeping "drop your worst score", and I also doubt that anyone would agree to be battered on the first evening ...

If someone does want to game the system I am sure they could - but it would be pretty obvious, and would lead to a fair degree of public shaming as well.

Which could be seen as another fine argument for adopting this idea 8)

Tim,

Are you going to offer this in FOG R as well? I am certain that there are overseas players who would love to play Alasdair, Ben, the 2 Don's, Jim Gibson and you. Yes, not forgetting Nigel (easy 25 points).

No reason why not if people like the idea - there's however a limit to the number of boards I can cross-post it to in one go!

I think its a good idea. I've never played Shaun Drummond. If he's in my period I'd like to give it a try and don't think it would be playing the system for the advantage of either of us. (am I bigging myself up there?)

What's this?

Dave Morrison playing twice?

Now I know he's good but is he that good?

So is he Garry Stevens then? More importantly can he choose to play himself? This gaining 25pts and a quiet night in?
Incidentally didn't Phil volunteer to get hammered on Friday night?
:-)

I think it's a great idea - will definitely take part if it is offered, although Pete Dalby is in other field (medieval). How do we choose who gets Ruddock - rock, paper, scissors on the night?

I've just signed up for the Early Period. No idea yet of what army I'm going to use.

How many people want to play me in the first round?

Too much competition in the late period?
