When a unit fires, the icons above all units that identify the units as Axis or Allied, disapears.

It's a odd visual effect. When you see a replay with many fire, it's dificult to see the units side.

Has this a purpose?

Yes - the icons hide themselves when there is any action going on. I guess we could look at making it optional for BA2.
