Hussites-Are They Viable?

Have any of the beta testers used Hussites? If so, could they give a idea about the rules for war wagons? Does it appear to be 'viable'> I'm not looking for a kilelr army, but am wondering whether it would provide an interesting game against a variety of opposing armies. TIA

I have tsted Hussites in the development phase several time ands Roger Greenwood came 4th inthink in Manchester using it. Its a lot of fun in FOG and quite viable.
You will see some BWg info on the FAQ at fieldofglory.com

I think I was a bit lower than 4th at Manchester, but I did make a couple of bad decisions in the game that I lost. It was me not the army! However, assuming the army list hasn't changed since the Manchester competition, I consider the Hussites are certainly playable. Whether this will change when everyone gets more experience with the rules is difficult to say. Whatever, I have just finished painting more figures for my Hussite army to give me more choices from the FoG army list and I intend to keep using it.

I think one of the problems with Hussites, regardless of rule sets, is that since they are centered on battle wagons, it means that you have to play a defensive strategy, being essentially immobile, and hope that your opponent plays to your strengths. If an opponent ignores the line of battle wagons, then outflanks you, the Hussites are done for.
Since I feel that FoG is a wonderful set of rules, and really appears to get historic interactions of troop types correct, than an experienced opponent will eventually find Hussites easy to deal with. In my opinion, if a player is in love with battle wagons, a more sensible army to choose, with a little more variety, would be either Later Medieval German or Hungarian. That way you get some of the wagons, but still get enough other stuff to become more mobile, responsive, and with a greater ability to defend your flanks. YMMV though.

No way! If the opponent ignores the wagons you just keep moving them forward. In FoG they are not as manouverable as they were in DBM, so it is not quite as easy. At some point the opposition either has to sit there being shot at or do something about the wagons. It is co-ordinating the wagon movement with the rest of the army that makes the Hussites an interesting army to use.
The wagons may be defensive in the sense that they need the opposition to come and fight them. However, tactically you have to be offensive minded to get them to a position that forces an opposition response.

We have put a lot of realistic limitations on Battle Wagons but allowed them enough basic movement that if used carefully they can force a game. There are also some interesting BGs inthe hussite list which can be used to force an attack while the BWg hold and occupy certain areas of table.
I have a hussite army myself and I certanly plan to take it to some ingle comp or other. Best pick one where Roger doesn't though - Hussite civil war might look something like sloth wrestling!

Sounds interesting then guys - at least it would make it worthwhile to have so cool Battle Wagon models, I guess.

Thank god the dancing warwagons are gone. That was a farce.

Speaking of which, where are the Battle Wagons from the Pecheneg list ? Does a FF really cover their effect ?

Yes
The warwagon classification in the DBM list was fairly unconvincing - based on the wagons sides being peirced for archery which sounds much more like fortifications to me.

Agreed a lot of things got to be War wagons in DBM, because they would be fun I believe and they had no better ideas.

Talking of 'fun' troop types, how will the Camillan Roman flaming pigs be treated in these rules ? If at all !
