With the BHGS Challenge now done and dusted, Roll Call is next up in the BHGS calendar.
This year we have 2 FoG R competitions, 25mm and 15mm. Roll Call will be the only event this year where we are looking to run a 25mm event (for FoGAM, FoGR and DBMM) so if you do have some big toys languishing in the attic, this is the event to wheel them out at.
Booking is now open for what, at £19/entry is our lowest priced event of the year.
FoGR 25mm - 700 points, Open. We want to get as many big boys toys on the table as possible and so for this event movement distances, deployment areas, flank sectors and terrain sizes will all be using 1MU = 1" - effectively it's 25mm figures on a 15mm format table.
FoG R 15mm - Period theme "800 points, Asia, Africa and the Americas in 15mm " - Armies can be chosen from the following two books.
Cities of Gold: Arawak, Carib, Aztec, Tlaxcalan, Huaxtec or Otomi, Tarascan, Zapotec or Mixtec, Chinantec, Mayan, Inca, Mapuche or Araucanian, Amazonian Forest Tribes, Tupi, Pueblo Culture, Chicimec, Natchez, South-Eastern Woodland Culture, Timucuan, Eastern Woodland Culture, Plains Culture, Pacific North-West Culture, Oromo, West Sudanese, Central African, Central Sudanese, Funj Or Fur, West African Forest, Mossi, Tuareg.
Colonies and Conquest: Ming Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Ikko Ikki, Mongol, Tibetan, Muslim Indian, Hindu Indian, Indonesian or Malaccan, Thai, Burmese and Khmer, Vietnamese, Maori and Pacific Island Cultures, Hawaiian, Mughal, Wokou Pirates, Jurchen, Later Jin and Qing, Maratha, Desert Bedouin, Settled Arab States, Ethiopian, Zanj, Horn Of Africa
Any Allies can only come from these named lists, apart from a single allied contingent of up to 4 units drawn from any "European" ally (including any "European-style" armies appearing in these two books )being allowed to lists where such allies are permitted.
The venue for Roll Call is;
Holywell School,
Red Lion Close,
Cranfield,
Bedford MK43 0JA .

Tim,
I seem to be missing the African armies. It only seems to be Asian and American armies listed above.

That's a very good point well made.
I will consult with the powers that be that conjured this stuff up, and see if it's them or me that's made the mistake!

Tim,
Another point is whether European armies are to be allowed with the Asian armies?

Just over 2 months to go, and so far we already have...
25mm FoGR as of today:
Nigel Emsen
David Allen
Mercier Denis
James Gibson
Tim Porter
15mm FoG:R as of today:
Keith Spedding
Colin Betts
Simon Leray-Meyer
Alasdair Harley
Anthony Michael Goss
Andrew Ellis
Robert Amey
Ben Jones
Stephen Stead
So, the heavyweights turning out early in 15mm, and the smart money trophy-hunters piling into the 25mm field. Quite a few regulars obviously waiting to see if their granny sends them the £19 Roll Call entry fee instead of an Easter egg this year..!
Booking open through this link

As a "Heavy Weight" how much do I have to lose to be allowed to join the "Lightweight" cowards in 28mm?!
Don (now on a diet!)

I'm hoping that's a slip of the keyboard as I don't know the rules for AM...

Roll Call is now less than 2 months away, and with 20+ more players already booked than last year's final total, we are at having to plan room allocations, table hire and catering more carefully than ever this year.
If you are planning to attend and haven't yet booked therefore, please do so as soon as you can, as this will help us out greatly in our planning!
thanks

I'm trying to find the comp rules for 25mm. Is the proposal to use normal (i.e.15mm) set up rules on a 6' x 4' table but then 40mm = 1mu??
Cheers
Richard

The aim is to get a lot of toys on the table, hence the fairly chunky points total for 25mm
My view would mean that also means we are going with rules-as-written (ie 15mm movement) ... unless anyone has a compelling argument to do something different?

As, due to my dire painting performance, I've had to abandon my intention to play 25mm at Roll Call, I can comment impartially.
I'd assumed 40mm MUs for 25mm as I don't think the 1" ones really work with the scale. For example, the shorter moves combined with the larger bases mean that sideways shifting by expansion is much faster than moving forward and positioning a flank charge is significantly harder.
That said, if the tables are only 6x4 that would make terrrain potentially enormous, deployment exceedingly close and the flank area much wider as a proportion of the table width, so I think Richard's suggestion is sensible.
For those worried about the letter of the rules, they actually say we can use whatever size MU we like!

My preference is very strongly for the 1" MU.
The game becomes distorted if a 40mm MU is used on a 6' x 4' table - troops close too quickly, moving from flank to flank is too easy, a GC's influence extends over half the table and Medium Artillery can cover the table depth.
I think 40mm works well for a one day tournament where you're trying to get three quick games, but not for one with four 3hr+ games.

I would strongly prefer 40mm per MU for Movement etc but 1" for the set up and deployment.
It's a pity we couldn't do 8 by 6 tables and do proper 800/900 points big boys.
cheers
Jim

All good points...
The 1-day events we already have in the UK usually have 40mm movement, but they tend to use smaller points totals, pre-set terrain, shorter games and fit 3 games in a day. With a mix of views on what is "right" being expressed here, I am still inclined to propose that the "15mm" movement distances be adopted for this particular event - on the basis that it's different to what is on offer elsewhere, and this is also more in keeping with the 2-games-day format with player-provided terrain.
The only question then is whether we need deeper deployment zones to fit the stuff in ?
I'll do an email round to those who have entered to confirm this once we decide on deplyment, and if anyone wants to swap as a result (in our out of 15mm!!) we can accommodate them no problem.

I'm happy for either 1" or 40mm mu... 700 pts nice to get the toys out... But means, I'm not actually painted up yet... 50pts of jacobites to Russell up

... 40mm mu. me likes that

at this rate I'll finish in the top 10 ...
