When I try to join the PBEM game I am refused access saying I need to go to the App Store and download the latest version.played ok about 2 hours ago.

You have to update to 2.60, which was just released.

I just downloaded the patch and got an error when I ran it (I'm on a mac):

I play it on iPad, so that must be a Mac-specific error. It works fine on iPad after update.

Hi guys,

the updates are just releasing now. The FTP servers have to synch between US and Europe so maybe give it a few hours to let everything settle down and then grab the update.

The Mac update should be 465 MB and the filename should end in .dmg.

You will be able to grab it here once its all settled down.

There are a few fixes in the update but its main purpose is to allow you to get all the expansions in a single Mega Pack for just $29.99. Up until yesterday this would have cost 6 * $15 - $90! We're also reducing the base price of the expansions to $9.99, but that still makes the Mega Pack great value!

Would it not make sense to per warn that things like this are to happen would have stopped me wasting people's time.

We did think about it but it was only down for a few minutes before the patch was available so we didn't think it would cause any major problems and we felt we'd cause more confusion if we posted a warning.

Fair enough but perhaps an addition to the warning screen that pops up saying that if not immediately available the patch will appear shortly. However thank you for the prompt response to my query.
