Charging infantry in the flank with cavalry

Does infantry successfully forming square as a reaction affect flank bonuses (instant cohesion drop + POAs) if they would have been used had they not been in square?

Infantry are not really affected by cavalry charging them in the flank, unless they:
a) Opt to not form square - for some curious reason
b) Are contacted within the first half of a pursuit move.

If they choose to form square, they cannot be contacted in the flank or rear, and so do not drop a cohesion level, nor have a negative POA.
At some future stage I might consider making forming square a 6+ if the charge starts from a flank or rear (i.e. an unexpected direction).

Since reacting to a charge by cavalry is a CT not a CMT, the general doesn't affect the dice roll.
So it would be a 6+ with or without the general.
