Little Help Getting to Run

Hello

I bought and installed the Gold version and then installed GS 3.0 and after launching the game would just sit on the loading screen.

Deleted everything and reinstalled just the Gold version and get the same thing.

I've tried running as admin and running in XP mode, no go.

I'm running win 7.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Which folder did you install CEAW Gold in and which folder did you install GS v3.0 in?

They have to be the same since GS v3.0 needs CEAW Gold to work properly. You can't just use GS v3.0. It must be installed on top of CEAW Gold.

Well, I'm not sure since I deleted it. But when I installed just Gold it wouldn't work.

Took a flyer and spent the $10 on the version on sale right now, which include GS3.0. Installed it and I am getting the same issues. Just sits on the loading screen.

I'm also having problems running CEAW GS v3.0, what is most estrange is that I have been able to run it with no problems but then one day I came up to the "loading game" screen and there it stays forever. I was able to solve the problem by uninstalling it completely and reinstalling but that hasn't work the last time. I have also deleted all references to CEAW GS in my documents folder. Now this procedure doesn't work any longer.

I have the original CEAW, I then I update to the gold version (v1.12) and after that I have installed GS v3.0 on the same folder where CEAW is installed.
I have no clues what makes it stop working, I'm not aware of having changed anything.
I was in the middle of a pbem game and would appreciate any hints that would help me solve the problem.

I'm attaching a screenshot just in case it is of any use
Should an dxdiag be necessary please let me know

Thanks

it would be haelpful to know what happened, during convoy movement, naval operations etc.. (those two are the most likley culprits)

The game ran fine and the next day refused too load, nothing to do with convoy moves or naval operations. Very odd :?

that suggests you changed something or you have the load process wrong

Have you altered any of the CEAW or GS v3.0 files like general.txt, scenarios etc. The game can refuse to load if the content there is not legal. It's very easy to do something the system doesn't like unless you know exactly how the syntax is.

E. g. adding a blank line in general.txt will cause the game to halt.

No,I haven't changed any files, as I said I made a clean install deleting everything left in CEAW folder, GS v3.0 has to be removed that way since it doesn't come with an uninstall.

Can you get the vanilla game to run?

I couldn't the last time I made the clean install. I'm going to try a new install again, previously deleting everything I may find related to CEaW and see if it works, then I'll report back.

Well I just made a clean install and the game does not run (nor v1.00 nor v1.12 I haven't bothered installing GS v3.0 again), I don't have the faintest idea of what can it be since a few day ago it was running fine.
Unless someone comes up with a solution, for which I'd be very grateful, I'm about to give up.

Could Microsoft silver light be interfering with Jave when running the game?
Its the only installation that could have messed up the game.
I'm removing it now see if it works.

What about doing a system restore to a time before the game worked?

I would have tried to completely remove all traces of the game.

Delete the CEAW and CEAW Grand Strategy 3.00 folders in the My documents folder.

For you it will be: K:\Users\Rafael J\Documents

Any reason the users folder is not on the C-drive?

In addition I would have deleted the entire MH CEAW folder structure.
For me it's D:\Slitherine\Commander - Europe at War

You probably have a different folder for the installation.

Then reinstall the vanilla game and see if it will run. Then install the GS v3.00 upgrade to the SAME folder as you installed the vanilla game.

Hi Stauffenberg,

I have gone through all your suggestions to no avail.
Game is in K:\ because I had Win Xp in C:\ then I added another HD and installed Win 7 that resulted in K:\
I no longer use Win Xp so everything gets installed in K:\

Thanks for your interest.

You can't even get the vanilla game to work? Maybe your Java installation is corrupt?

Which folders do you have under the main installation folder?

Do you have the file GS300_settings.txt in the main installation folder? If yes then post the content.

Try to have:
NO_SOUND_EFFECTS 1
NO_MUSIC 1

Some players have experienced problems if the sound is turned on in the game.
