Not surprising.

Apple makes nice hardware that just happens to be over priced yuppy toys.

I am vexed that Battle Academy is on iPad and so isn't Panzer Corps. And it likely means I won't be enjoying them before hell freezes over thanks to how my income went into the toilet in 2014. Somehow buying an iPad to play two games I own on my laptop is kinda dumb.

I can hear how some of the publishers speak of difficulties, but, I have to wonder, what precisely is John Tiller doing right then. He's essentially completely owning the Android wargaming scene currently. Well if you ignore the oodles of dreadful schlock games on Google pretending to be wargames, because it takes more than a picture of a tank to make a wargame.
I've also been supporting Joni Nuutinen's Conflict series on Android, and I think he's got an acceptable product too.

People told me so many times, the tablet is a flash in the pan, not going to be serious. Sorry boys, it's not a flash in the pan, and they are not going anywhere.
No one really cares what you think of your need for a large monitor and a desktop either. My laptop works juuuust fine as either itself, or plugged into my TV via an HDMI cable, and I find my tablet does nice too when out of the house.

Apple is going to need a new reason for me to spend 200 bucks past the price of a good Android tablet. And a couple of good wargames, it isn't really enough reason.

The simple reason is that we see much more revenue from Apple than Android for the same game though the gap has closed. Why would the developer choose to make less money by going Android instead of iOS? I'm sure Android will become viable for wargames at some point but I'm not sure its there yet. We have a few Android releases coming (Unity means you get Android versions pretty cheap so it makes sense), and we'll have more data to go on after that.

John must be doing something right. You don't make money giving it away. And thus far this last several months, he's been churning out games simultaneously in iOS Android, and Kindle releases for tablet. In addition to his more conventional PC releases.

Good luck to him! We certainly plan more Android releases but the simple truth is they generate less revenue than iOS at the moment.

The vast vast majority of Android revenue comes from free to play games. Premium don't sell on the platform and we don't make free to play. iOS has a much higher % of people willing to pay for premium games and probably why we see better sales there.

Everyone has to chart their own course Ian.

I am a fan of anything though that takes the initiative, and strikes out for new ground. I see there are 3 new titles coming to the beta circuit for the iPad crowd.

Wargaming has too long believed falsely that a wargame can only exist in a desktop. That is as silly as thinking a wargame can only exist on a table.
