Spartan Army

I am new to seeing FOG but from what I have read it looks really interesting (never really got into DBM or DBMM).

I would like to get a Spartan army to start the game. What I would like to know is:

1) Where would I find the Spartan army list so I can work out what I need to buy?
2) Xyston seem to do really nice models but am a little concerned by the fact they seem to be 17-18mm. Do they look bad against more regular 15mm models and if so, who would be the best alternative?
3) If the Xyston models are worth getting, would 4 of the DBA boxed sets give me a good starter army. It would give me 56 elements/bases.

If anyone can give me some advice it would be MUCH appreciated!

Many thanks
Adam

Hi,

The Spartan list will be in the Imortal Fire book

Xyston are fine for use against any 15mm figures. I wouldn't mix some manufacturers with them in the same army but on the other side it really isn't an issue

4 DBA army packs would not be a bad starting point. You would probably need a bit more to fully flesh out the army but it is a decent place to start.

I'm having a Xyston Hoplite army painted for FOG, they are probably the best out there at the mopment so figures are a good choice

As a starting point i'd think about what you will need in a "Classical Greek" army. so a few hints I'm not sure what I can say about the list, but as a starter you wont go far wrong with.....

Hoplites are the main troop type and are in Battlegroups of 6 or 8 Bases 4 figs to a base, Spartans being superior and drilled you get fewer battlegroups than other Greeks, whey are also limited in number. Their close Laconian allies are also drilled but are average so are a bit cheeper than the Spartans. 48 bases would give you 8 Bg's of 6 bases or 6 Bg's of 8 bases so a good starting point for you HF. Also your Generals are also based as Hoplites and you can have between 2 and 4.

You also need a couple of BG of Light Foot with 2 figs on a base, and they are also in groups of 6 to 8.
Some cavalry are allowed and most players use BG of 4 bases, with 3 figs to a base, 2 BG's are a good starting point, as they are limited.
