Great Game

I just downloaded the demo and this game is really fun! The order system is incredibly fun to use and works very nicely, but one thing annoyed me. It might just be because these are low-level units but after my first battle they all got a minimum of one level, and i would say the avg was 2 or 3. In the third or fourth one (the one where you are the vanguard or an army train and need to hold off for some time) it felt too easy. the enemy caught me off guard by sending his cavalry across the map and coming down, so my forces weren't really prepared, but outnumbered in what i believe is equal terrain, my 2 light infantry + 1 velite held off at least 3 light infantry + 3 velites on the river. Are there difficulty settings planned? Are these just the early, easy battles? I hope one of those is true, because pushovers arent overly fun. Other than that, GREAT GAME! I can't wait till it comes out! And I love the skin changing capabilities (first thing i did after the tutorial was change the skins and give my guys intimidating names  )

I myself had played across all 5 missions. I sold the calvary, the velite and one auxilia squad at the very beginning to collect enough money to recruit one additional legion. Then after each battle, you'd better not buy any squad more, rather, you should use the money gained to equip each squad with attack/defense equipments.

I didn't sell any1, I just spent all my funds on upgrading them too. My cavalry actually, is my best squad right now, they are good and are nice to have for flakning :D

You can adjust the difficulty level from the game options popup. Apparently on the hardest setting the demo is pretty darned hard ;)

Still havent beaten it on hardest, and I consider myself to be a pretty good strategist. Its just that timing everything and judging distances is so darned hard with these delays... And killing the heavy infanty on the final mission is near impossible.

LOL, thx for the info. I tried going the entire demo without upgrading any1 and was doing fine, had to play the foiurth one twice. But on the last one I played 5 times at least and came this* close to winning :P I then tried the same battle plan + random praetorian and gave up  I have got to try the higher difficulties now, i guess. TY :P

Demo Fun

We hope the demo is just about right, and gives a flavour of whats available in the game. Its always a difficult call to judge this just right

I have played 5 or 6 missions, the one I'm on now, I keep getting my arse handed to me. It is a great game. The command and control for the leader are excellent. I"ve tried giving my leader strat, tact and leader which I think all give him a bonus in command points and point recuperation. :D

^^ your right, those upgrades are very usefull. I like the command system, it limits the player the pefect amount, I often fuind myself staring at the counter waiting for it to fill, but it doesn't kill all strategy (and it is quite hard to deplete it all w/ advanced strategy+ advanced quick thinking). :D

ps, switched to hard and having fun TY :P

We thought long and hard regarding the command and control features, but from a personal POV I would not be without this feature when playing. However there are plent of people out there who prefer to play without this complication :?

Thats why our publishers asked to include arcade mode where you play with infinite command points.

I think the new tactical battle engine is brilliant and a huge improvement from previous Slitherine games; which were very good by the way. Arcade mode=BAD. :(

No I haven't, it was just a general comment on any kind of "easy" mode for any game. I can't imagine why anyone would want to use arcade mode. However, if one was so inclined, I am sure that arcade mode works fine. It just seems to me that it would rip out the guts of a fine tactical combat engine.

Yeah, i agree with you. I'll play Legion Arena because of tactical playing, because I'm a heavy grand-strategy gamer and sometimes want to fight a quick battle, buut keeping the "good things" (lets put AOE aside, then): limited ammo, moral issues and such. If i turn off the tactical side of the game, little is left to play with. I just misunderstood your comment :) .

Duncan

It does give you a very different game.

I much prefer the Command and control feature to be on, but I can see how some people prefer to have instant control, for me that lacks the realism, but in the last analysis who I am I to dictate how someone else prefers his gaming

Agreed, options are always a good thing.
