flank support and counter charge

Had a situation in our game today where I had attempted to charge with 3 of my cavalry units, the middle unit was spent and failed to charge. The French cavalry unit had to counter charge and was not able to make a full counter charge since it would have hit the spent cav that failed to charge. There was no way to wheel around it my spent cav was pretty close and even a wheel would have put the French into contact with it. I felt that the French would hit both units, but the French player said no so he stopped short of my spent cav and my Hussars moved into contact with them there.

Now this puts my unit of Hussars in combat with the spent unit of Chevaux Leger standing beside them and on the opposite side a unit of Light Dragoons who had charged a different French Hussar unit. My spent Chevaux Leger was in a position where both French units were in its support area on either flank, both left and right of the Chevaux Leger. I wanted to get flank support for both combats but the French said no.
Page 56 says you can only receive support one from each flank, no where does it say you can't give support to more than one unit. Page 57 says a unit can give rear support to 2 friendly units max.

So first question: in the case of the counter charge should the French have had to hit the stationary Chevaux Leger in their counter charge?

Second question: Should the Chevaux Leger have been able to give flank support to both the Hussars on their left and the Light Dragoons on their right?

1) no. Nothing permits a counter charger to engage a new unit that I can think of.
2) yes. As you say nothing prohibits a unit supporting different units.

I agree with the answers to both questions.
