You will know from my other post in the Beta forum that I experienced the same crash approx once a play session approx during my first playthrough of this game. They often happened at the same time mostly as I tried to go back to the Space Complex after assigning researchers. I would crash back to the menu but be able to get back roughly where I was before the crash using an Autosave file.

Well I have narrowed some of these crashes down now. I cant find the autosave files anywhere so I cant attach one, but this is how to recreate at least one of these crashes:

Start a new game, start space planes project and a probe project and assign all 5 researchers to them. Hire a new researcher he will go into basic training.
End season.
Hired researcher is still not available yet.
End season.
At the summary screen that comes up showing reliabilities for various research projects, if you look at the bottom of the screen you will notice that the previously hired researcher now appears as available. Click on this button to get back to researcher list to see he is available now. Go to opened programs list via the solar system screen and assign him to an open program.
Click on 'Go Back To Space Complex' and the game should crash back to the start menu. Well it does for me.

Hope that helps narrow down that annoying crash.

In fact it doesnt just happen when you exit out of the summary screen and hire a researcher. If you also exit out of the end of season summary screen using one of the buttons along the bottom of the screen, and then just even have a look at an open projects R&D reliability, you also crash to menu when you try to get back to the Space Complex.

I think its because the game is thinking you have started a new season too early - ie its registering employees as coming back from training and showing research as being updated etc during the display of that summery screen, before the next season has actually started. And I think its that conflict that is crashing the game. What it probably needs is for that summary screen to cover the whole GUI so that only the 'proceed' button is available to click. This way you cant click on any of the buttons at the bottom and go back to the previous season which seems to cause all of the problems. Once you reach this sumamry screen you should ONLY be able to progress to the next season from it.
