Hey guys,

Thinking of buying the ipad version of the game (already own the computer version and many expansions). Is there a rating system implemented for the ipad which gives player's a score and modifies it as they play people? This would be a great feature for this great game even if implemented lightly.

Hello ruskicanuk, as far as I know there is no rating system for multiplayer. I have no idea if something like that might be included later on, maybe the developers know more about that?

I Don't like the idea because results could be easily manipulated.

Really? You'll have to explain that Naxor. I suggested a server side rating system based on ELO as used with chess back when the base game came out, but unfortunately the developers have shown no interest yet. Given the opportunity, I think an ELO ranking for relative skill indication could be complemented with a more subjective player feedback system so that you both know which kind of opponent you'd be facing and whether it's someone who bothers to actually finish games properly and so on. Still think it's a great idea.

Unless you implement a random match making system and forbid people to play chosen opponents (or at least do not rank this matches) you can just simply play multiple matches with someone you know who lets you score some devastating victories and blow your ranking insanely. I am not saying implementing an at least somewhat working ranking system would be impossible but it requires a lot more effort then just an ELO system. Considering PC is mostly played for the single player, there was a poll a while ago i sadly can't find anymore and the vote was quite clear, and it's developed by a small team which is busy with a lot other tasks (IPad version, Steam release, Soviet Corps) i doubt it will ever happen.

I mean stat boosting. If there is a player with 2 multiplayer accounts he can purposely lose games to increase win % of his main account. Playing unbalanced multiplayer maps extensively could also be used for this purpose. Mainly user made maps but also some official maps give clear edge to other player.

But I like the idea too if above problems are solved.

One stat i would like to see before joining game against random opponent is how many times he have played that particulary map before because there is a lot of players who only play 1 or 2 different map everytime.

Edit: Tarrak was quicker

Well maybe it's just me, but I really don't see the interest of "faking" a skill level in this game. the only use i see for an ELO-like rating is to make sure each player can make better informed decisions on which games to join. It's at least more interesting than a message saying "experienced players only", which doesn't really say anything useful. There's no prize attached and this is a rather mature community, so really, I can't see anyone bothering with faking their skill level. All it would achieve is that they'd get paired more often with misled higher skilled players who'd kick their butt in a game anyway ...
