The joy of AA

Up to now, playing the Germans, I never used AA core units much, except as occasional cannon fodder units, which I never bothered to develop. As I started an Italian-Core Afrika Korps campaign, I thought I´d better pack two 90mm AA guns (pretty similiar to the German), although I had mainly AT work in mind, since they are switchable. Anyway, with two stars, overstrength and heroes (one with a Range hero: Range 4!), they are priceless. They usually do 7 or 8 damage against a Spitfire, which then becomes an easy prey for my Italian fighters. Additionally, they are my best means to destroy those hardy Churchills, which are nigh invulnerable to the puny Italian tanks. They are very vulnerable to counterattacks, so I can´t deploy them to the front without serious artillery backing. There, the self-propelled artillery M40 is the ideal companion.
There are so many different tactics in this game, which is what makes it great.

Thanks for the comment - you can't beat a success story for promoting a unit type you don't normally use.
I've not tried the 90mm AA/AT yet, but I like the idea of boosting the Italian component of the core, so when I have got too cold in the Eastern DLCs (probably by the end of this week as I have just started 1943) I will give them a go in the desert while I warm up again.

Seconded!
Also, please forgive me this juvenile addendum: This 90mm AA gun is 2mm better than the German 8.8!

Good suggestion. Afrika corps is unique in that you can use the Italians as part of your corps. It is useful to know of another unit one can add. Thanks.

Yes a good suggestion, like others I have tended to stay away from AA (apart from some 8.8s) but these do sound like useful additions.
