Cohesion Status Markers

A recent discussion thread on The Miniatures Page (
http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=129861 ) raised the question of creating "official" FoG cohesion status markers through Litko, GF9, or another company. While several of the TMPers have since had a bit of fun with the discussion, it does raise an interesting possibility.
I am aware that there has been considerable debate here about the "proper" method for indicating cohesion status, and the pros and cons of various types of markers. However, it might not be a bad idea for Osprey and/or Slitherine to enter into an agreement with someone to offer some high quality "official" FoG cohesion status markers, as one possible alternative. Or would that be likely to raise more problems than it is worth?
Cheers,
Scott

I think various entities should just offer markers acceptable for FoG.
While in my early game I found turning bases sufficient, most of my opponents have requested casualty caps and they are convenient enough.

I use counters that are yellow on one side and red on the other. Yellow for disrupted, red for fragmented. When they are routing it's easy to tell!!! In the UK you can also use 1p coins for disrupted and 2p coins for frag or vice-versa. Turning bases works but is not as easy to see, especially when you are counting attrition points for fragmented BGs.

I considered using counter that were different on each side, but considered the risks of accidently turning them over was too great.

Never happened to me, but the pence coins can do the trick then. Euro cents for the continentals. Or some overpriced fancy counters from a manufacturer!

I am intending making some Flames of War style markers with casualty figures on them so they look the part. I have not yet had much joy in finding suitable figures but there are a few out there for specific armies and I think if there is a demand then it will be met.

Hi
At out club Peter Dunn has got in touch with a small plastic marker and made an order of markers for all the FoG players who are interested. The price per player was $15.

For the curious, what do the markers look like?

I was contemplating pulling the heads off my warhammer skeletons and using 1,2 or 3 on a base, then I thought maybe 10mm skeletons in their entirity, not done it yet though

The Halifax players have gone for the tiddley winks as markers. I have seen a few others doing this as well. Do we have a common colour coding? We use green for disrupted, yellow fragmented and red for routing.

That is what I am currently doing, as well. I am also curious to see the special club markers when they are posted.

Currently using double sided red/blue counters here. Essex used to do some generic 'status' markers. Not sure if they still do or if the relevant 'state' (or something close to them are available). I'd be interested in some good quality markers, Flames of War style (but not a set for each army as they do)!

Everybody at our club currently uses Tiddlywinks. Green for disrupted, yellow for fragmented and red for routing seems to be the standard.
These markers can be picked up at any big wargames show for approx £3 (which is how much mine cost) this gives you about 25 counters of each colour, which is more than sufficient (even for both sides)
Having said that, I was approached at Britcon by somebody who said they were going to start to manufacture proper little markers with text written on them. I was asked what all the various states were (i.e. disrupted, fragmented, routing, disordered, severley disordered, etc)

I made a number of markers from card and flocked them in the same style as I finish the figure bases - they look fine. Dead figures would look better and probably worth the effort, no need to buy specifically 'dead' castings, just use some spare ancient figures and whack them flat (before painting!) with a lump hammer.

I use officers/leaders and standard bearers to represent disruption, based on 1 pence coins (disrupted) or 2 pence coins (fragmented). The figures are based on the army, so I have a set per army. They are positioned behind the unit to represent officers behind the BG trying to steady the line.
I don't bother with a routed marker as it's pretty obvious when a unit is in rout.

Quite like that idea. I'm still a little adverse to counters if I can avoid them.

A lot of people think that, but I have had several games where there was no defined battle line and troops have been facing in opposite directions, in this case it is not pretty obvious which units are routing!!!
We also tend to put a marker on the baggage to keep a track of all the units that are fragmented or routing to keep track of the overall attrition points. i.e. if a unit routs we put a red marker behind it, if it leaves the table then that red marker gets transferred to the baggage to ensure we don't forget that unit is broken.

Hi
You can see photos of the cohesion markers I was referring to in my previous post. They are in my report on the battle of my Medieval Germans vs Macedonians. The URL is
viewtopic.php?t=4802.
