Gotten rusty and forgot a few rules.

A unit that declares an assault whose opponent runs away. (wavering broke or evader)
It is prohibited from firing in firing phase, correct?

I think the rule specifically says only assaulting unit that "failed to contact due to enemy fire" may fire.

A unit can fire in in the firing phase if it charged in the assault phase but failed to contact due to enemy fire.
If it failed to contact for any other reason - i.e. the enemy broke or evaded - it cannot fire.
