This is my sequence of events for Commander: Europe at War:

1. put disc into drive.
2. double left click the shortcut on desktop.
3. a screen pops up with a big "PLAY" at the top and other options below (manual, forum, etc).
4. left click "PLAY"......sometimes it will accept the click and proceed, sometimes it does nothing at all at this stage. If it proceeds.....
5. flag screen appears asking the language of preference. I click the good ole Union Jack!
6. a page or two of credits (Kameleon, Matrix, etc) show up and run through.
7. A short snapshot of a battle (tank and infantry in a city I think) runs through.
8. The red loading screen appears (Guderian to far right). The words "Loading Game" are at the bottom and slowly strobing in and out while the game loads. No progress is ever made from this point!

I'm not really up on the computer lingo so I often don't know how to do much of the technical stuff unless walked through it. Can someone please figure out what is wrong with my game? Could it just be a bad disc? Is there something else I haven't tried yet?

Comp specs:

Windows XP
Pentium D Dual Core
NVidia Geforce 7900 GTX

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I want to play!!!!!!! SAVE ME PLEASE!!!

You have to have the game installed on your harddrive to play. In order to install I think you have to type in the key code for your game. It appears you might have an improperly installed game on your computer. If possible, I would recommend you remove it from your hard drive(if it is on it) then re-install. That just about completes what I know about the technical issues involved. You don't need the disk to play a properly installed game.

Yep - the first thing I would suggest is to uninstall and reinstall the game, and see if that helps at all.

I tried uninstalling and it does nothing for me. The disc works on other computers, just not mine. Any clue what is holding it up on my machine?

Is this a disk you bought from Matrix as we don't sell physical disks? You may need to ask their technical support people as the menu system you are having trouble with is written by them.

What are the specs of your PC - RAM & processor? Maybe it's below the minimum spec?

It is a Pentium D Dual Core, nvidia 7900 GTX, 2 gig Ram.

I'll have to get Johan to have a look and see if he can help.

That would be most appreciated! Thanks (in advance) for any help.

I really have the impression it is some setting or missing download. I have no problems with any other games and I know the disk works on my friend's computer.

Just to check - does the game run before you try and patch it?

It doesn't run with or without the patch.

I have had this same problem once and it was due to corrupted files but they were not corrupted by the game. I had been messing with the script files and game failing loading them. Since you bought from Matrix you should contact their support and see if they can complement any of your files that are not working.

Is there any way to tell which files are corrupt, otherwise this is tricky to fix?
